Background / History

Vegeta arrived on Earth with Nappa to scout its strongest warriors. Both Saiyans underestimated the planet’s defenders, and Raditz—seeking revenge for years of mistreatment—defeated Vegeta and Nappa before they could use an Artificial Moon to transform. 64 65

After He Lingxuan gave him a Senzu Bean, Vegeta recovered from 18,000 to 30,000 combat power. He chose to remain on Earth after He Lingxuan made continued progress a condition of his stay, awakening in him an intense need to never again be helpless before a stronger opponent. 66

Raditz informed him that any Saiyan could potentially become a Super Saiyan if the necessary conditions were met. Although initially humiliated that Gohan had achieved the legendary state first, Vegeta became determined to pursue it himself. 67

On Namek, Vegeta trained alongside the Z Fighters, had his potential unlocked by the Grand Elder, and arrogantly led the charge against Frieza. Even with Kaioken ×5, Frieza easily pierced his abdomen with a single punch, leaving Vegeta comatose while the others continued the battle. 74 75 76
