Karochi and Tights had now arrived on Yardrat.
To Karochi's surprise, a Yardratian was already waiting at their destination, smiling warmly at him. The alien bowed. "Welcome, travelers from afar!"
What the hell? What was this? Did you need to be able to predict the future to show off nowadays?
Tights watched the scene with a speechless expression. Those words sounded oddly familiar! Hadn't they been through this before?
"Please don't be alarmed, honored guests. I'm Husu, the planet's sage. Our king sent me to welcome you." Husu introduced himself and explained why he had come, his presence as soothing as a spring breeze.
Karochi had come to study, so he knew he should be polite. He quickly returned the bow. "I'm Karochi, a Saiyan. This is my big sister, Tights, a human from Earth."
Tights was delighted by Karochi's introduction. He really did see her as his big sister! After all, they'd been together for two and a half years. They hadn't fallen in love, but they had developed a sibling bond.
"There's no need to be so formal. The king already knows why you've come! Mr. Karochi, it seems you've just greatly increased your power, and it feels rather unstable," Husu continued.
Good grief! Were Yardratians really that impressive? In the original story, they'd barely been mentioned. Karochi could tell that Husu's ki wasn't very strong—only around fifty or sixty thousand, it seemed.
Yet he'd spotted Karochi's current state at a glance. The Grand Elder's method of increasing his power had no drawbacks, but the sudden surge in strength had indeed been troubling Karochi. He'd always trained gradually before and had never experienced anything like this.
"You've got a good eye!" Karochi scratched his head and chuckled awkwardly.
Husu turned, seemingly to lead the way. "Please come with me. Studying our techniques should help Mr. Karochi control his ki."
"Thank you so much!" Well, that had gone smoothly. Tights looked around, unsure what she was supposed to do. Was this brat really going to leave her here? So much for their sibling bond.
Husu stopped and turned to Tights. "You're welcome to come along, miss. Our techniques aren't only for those who are powerful."
Honestly, if it weren't for the fact that she wasn't attracted to him, Tights might have thought Husu was a handsome gentleman—unlike a certain monkey!
Karochi finally caught on. Damn! He'd been so happy that he'd forgotten about his sister. Judging by her expression, she was probably angry. It wasn't a good time to placate her; he'd just get an earful. The best thing to do was make himself scarce. She'd cool off eventually.
Husu led the way at an unhurried pace.
A short while later, the three of them arrived at a place that resembled a cave. Husu stopped.
"You can go in on your own and choose whichever technique you like or feel drawn to. Just please don't disturb the members of our people who are studying inside." With that, Husu started to leave.
He'd taken only a couple of steps when he turned back to look at Karochi, as if trying to confirm something.
Then he shook his head and sighed softly without saying a word before leaving. Karochi was left completely baffled. Don't sigh at me! If you've got something to say, just say it. I hated people who spoke in riddles.
But Husu had already gone, and Karochi didn't even know what to ask him. So he simply followed Tights into the cave.
The moment they entered, the view opened up before them. It felt like the Peach Blossom Spring from his previous life. Yardratians sat scattered across the ground.
Some furrowed their brows, as if they were resisting or adapting to something.
"What technique are you going to study, Tights?" Karochi asked casually, partly to see if she was still angry.
Tights tossed her head and ignored him, walking off to one side. Karochi had just been about to go over and comfort her when a voice sounded in his mind.
"Welcome, Saiyan traveler from afar! How astonishing. I never thought one of that savage race could become someone like you." The voice was calm and even, yet carried an intangible air of authority.
Karochi frowned and replied mentally, "Who are you?" At the same time, he searched his surroundings, keeping an eye on Tights.
"Don't be nervous. I'm Supar, king of Yardrat. And don't worry about that young woman from Earth. She'll find a technique suited to her."
Karochi was stunned. The king of Yardrat?
"If so, Mr. Supar, why not show yourself?" Karochi had always believed that anyone sneaking around was up to no good.
"There's no need for us to meet. A few hours ago, I sensed that the wish-granting orbs on Planet Namek had been used. After pondering it for a moment, I saw the two of you arrive and learned why you had come. That's why I sent Husu to welcome you." Supar didn't give Karochi a chance to ask anything before continuing. "The wish-granting orbs of Planet Namek are an evil path. They're inherently unnatural."
"In the hundreds of years since that Namekian created them, not a single Namekian has used them to make a wish! Their existence denies the established order of cause and effect. They're not part of the righteous path." Supar sounded as if he were simply stating a fact.
Karochi was confused. "What exactly are you trying to say?"
"I don't know. I don't know! I can't see clearly. The future is a blur. A set of orbs that can grant the desires of the heart seems like something that shouldn't exist." He sounded as if he were muttering to himself, or perhaps issuing a warning.
It shouldn't exist? What did that mean?
Karochi scoffed at the idea. Hadn't Old Supreme Kai called the Dragon Balls an evil path in the original story, too? In the end, he'd still come around to them!
"Hm? What was I just saying?" Supar asked, his voice echoing through Karochi's mind once more.
Huh? That left Karochi completely baffled. Didn't the old man know what he'd just said? Or was he so old that he'd become senile?
Karochi was about to remind him, but the strange connection between him and Supar seemed to break. No reply came. Karochi was left utterly confused.
He shrugged. He truly had no idea what the so-called King of Yardrat was thinking. But it didn't matter. Karochi started searching for the technique he wanted to learn.
After walking for a while, Karochi stopped in front of a wall.
It was covered in intricate, strange symbols. The instant Karochi saw them, he froze in place, as if he'd turned to stone.
A month later, Karochi suddenly snapped out of it!
"Holy crap! Is this the Space Secret Art?" Karochi was stunned. The symbols were a strange script of the soul that acted directly upon it.
Karochi rubbed his aching head, then exclaimed again, "What the heck! I've mastered my own power completely?"
That familiar feeling of controlling his power as easily as his own arm had returned. It was reassuring.
"You've awakened!" Husu's voice came from behind Karochi.
Karochi turned, his pupils contracting when he saw Tights lying on the ground. "What did you do to her? If anything happens to Tights, I won't hesitate to slaughter everyone on Yardrat."
Karochi's power burst out involuntarily. The terrifying pressure made Husu sweat profusely as he waved his hands frantically. "Stop, stop! Please withdraw your power first. The young woman is fine! She simply couldn't withstand the soul inscriptions while studying the technique and fainted."
Karochi withdrew his power and instantly appeared beside Tights, lifting her into his arms. He examined her carefully and only sighed in relief after confirming she wasn't hurt.
"You've been training here for over a month! This young woman only just fainted, and it seems she'll be asleep for a while." Husu's words stunned Karochi. What did he mean, over a month? Hadn't it only been the blink of an eye?
Husu patiently explained, "Our people's techniques rely on the word 'enlightenment.' Anyone who has the aptitude can learn them. And since this cave is filled with strange energy, those studying here don't get hungry!"
??? Karochi was speechless. In his mind, he silently typed two words: "Badass."
Come to think of it, Earth had another unnatural place—the Hyperbolic Time Chamber at the Lookout. Only Mr. Popo probably knew where that pocket dimension had come from.
With Tights unconscious, Karochi couldn't continue training. He had no choice but to stay by her side. Thank goodness she finally woke up on the seventh day.
"Hmm? Little Chi, what happened to me? Wasn't I studying the Spirit Eye technique?" Tights asked in confusion when she saw Karochi gazing at her with a happy expression.
Karochi suppressed his excitement and patiently explained what had happened.
"Oh! So that's what happened. I passed out?" After hearing the whole story, Tights felt a little happy. She hadn't expected Karochi to care so much about her.
She suddenly hugged Karochi, her voice breaking slightly. "Thank you, Little Chi!"
Uh... Why was she suddenly getting so emotional? Women would only slow down my path to power. Because of what had happened with Tights, he'd lost a whole week of training, and he was lucky she was all right.
"It's nothing, Tights. Do you feel unwell at all?" Karochi asked with concern.
Tights released him and said, "No. And... heh heh! Your big sister learned the Spirit Eye technique." She looked at Karochi smugly.
Huh? She'd learned it? Damn, he'd barely learned half of his own technique. Was Tights really that talented?
"Then what does this Spirit Eye technique do, Tights?" Karochi asked curiously. He was actually falling behind.
Tights closed her eyes, then opened them again. Her eyes now gleamed brightly!
What was that supposed to mean? Did learning this technique give you a pair of huge, sparkly eyes?
"Wow, Little Chi, you're amazing! Your battle power is 1.53 million!" Tights cried out as she looked at Karochi. After activating the Spirit Eye, she'd seen a series of figures like the data on a status panel.
Name: Karochi
Race: Saiyan
Battle power: 1.53 million
Notes: An unnatural Saiyan warrior who surpassed the limits of his people and forged his own path!! He was an upright person and would go to heaven after death.
