The wardens and their subordinate units were the strictest, most vigilant, and most resilient warriors among all the Praetorian Guard. After undergoing trials of life and death and the armor-bestowal ceremony, they did not immediately assume their duties. Instead, they were sent to a place known only to the Emperor and the Praetorian Guard Commander for further trials. Upon returning successfully, they proved that they possessed the coldest, most unyielding minds capable of resisting the horrors of the cosmos. These two guardsmen were immediately dispatched to the Kamar-Taj dungeon to watch over its strange prisoners—prisoners that might be living beings, objects, even a sound, an image, or a wound in the fabric of space-time. The Emperor had granted them the most formidable mystical weapons and technology, enabling them to carry out capture and imprisonment missions. Like the Emperor's own thoughts, they remained eternally vigilant. Even the maddening, indescribable darkness within the prison could not break their spirit or discipline.
The only prisoner Hammurabi knew of was a wizard whose vaguely humanoid form had been barely pieced together from maggots. He was connected to the East Coast Earthquake in North America and an abandoned town in New England. That creature had originally been human, but foul magic had transformed him into that nameless horror. The Emperor and his apprentice, Wanda Maximoff, had captured him. Another former prisoner was Milia, who now lived at Oxfordshire Manor. Her danger had been eliminated, and the Witch had taken responsibility for teaching her. Even so, Milia remained a pawn through which an Extra-dimensional Being Lord could enter the Material Universe. Should the Extra-dimensional Beings triumph, all of human civilization would fall into an irreversible apocalypse.
This was the least dangerous prisoner. All the secrets in that underground prison were known only to the Sorcerer Supreme
