That punch had been like hitting smoke, Black Bolt Blackagar Boltagon thought. The body shrouded in black vapor abruptly shattered, then re-formed beside him, as though Maximus's Material Universe body had already broken apart. The searing pain in Black Bolt's chest and neck was unbearable; his burned nerve endings and skin bled profusely. Where is he? he thought as he swung his fists. How can I kill him?

"I can hear you, brother." A massive silver sword suddenly appeared, carving a bloody wound across Black Bolt's abdomen. Cold malice nearly took physical form as it burrowed into his body and shot up his spine, making Black Bolt shudder. The black mist thinned slightly, and Black Bolt glimpsed Maximus's face growing even more rigid, with a layer of ghastly white fangs sprouting from the charred skin of his burned face. Before Black Bolt could do anything, the massive silver sword tore through the air and thrust at him again.

"Get away!"

A sound wave powerful enough to shatter steel blasted Black Bolt himself backward, barely allowing him to evade the fatal attack. This strike had not achieved its intended result. The silver sword remained completely unharmed by the sonic assault, and Maximus, shrouded in black mist, still stood there. Through the dispersed fog, Black Bolt saw Maximus's plasma-burned skin, muscles, and bones recovering at a visible speed. Those eyes brimming with malice still stared at him with hatred. Behind Maximus, the already-collapsed buildings had been blasted open with a huge hole. Sturdy steel and concrete were instantly pulverized by the sound waves, then hurled high toward the Steel Dome by the violent wind raised by the rushing air.
