Dr. Peters's news immediately interrupted the discussion.
It was good that engineer Justin had awakened, but his behavior after waking had been abnormal enough that Dr. Peters had rushed to the bridge for help. More precisely, she had had no choice. Though somewhat flustered, she briefly described what she had discovered to Captain Miller, First Officer Stark, and Major D.J.

But when she turned away to continue dealing with the remains of the former crew members, Justin vanished from the bed. As she hurried to search for him, she heard a hatch suddenly slam shut, followed by problems in the ship's circuitry. An excessive current blew out the lights in the medical bay. Panicked, she ran for the bridge and caught a glimpse of someone who appeared to be Justin heading toward the biological storage room. Overloaded lumens came first, cold lights burning and exploding as they released smoke with a scorched stench. Then the thing began battering the hatch from outside. The thick airtight door dented beneath immense force, and sections of the bridge went dark one after another, leaving only continuously spraying electrical sparks.
Dr. Peters screamed in terror.
