Psionic Reaction
Limited by the population density and construction techniques of the era, after the battle, only a few houses built from reed stalks and mud bricks remained in this populous village within Kree territory that the Inhumans could use as cover. The owners of these houses had cooperated with the Inhumans, supplying the Kree with slaves for experimental material, and were therefore far wealthier than other farming villagers of the Predynastic period. They even owned slaves to cultivate vast tracts of land and iron weapons.
After the war began, the mud-brick house occupied by the slave owner and his family became the Inhumans' hiding place and cover. The slave owner who had once enslaved other mortals became food for Hydra, while the slaves who could only sleep in reed huts fled when they realized something was wrong. When two explosive rounds shattered the body of an Inhuman who looked no different from a human, they also blew apart the relatively sturdy outer wall of the mud-brick house. The hollowed-out bodies of the slave owner and his family lay in the middle of the house, blood still clinging to their bones. Their smooth skulls gaped mockingly, empty eye sockets staring at both sides that had smashed through this crude dwelling.
Sparks floating through the air ignited the roof in an instant. Burning bundles of loose reed stalks fell, burying the dead in flame. But neither side cared about those bones. Hammurabi did not care whether the slave owners lived or died. To the Inhumans, these humans were merely food for Hydra and materials to satisfy their masters' experiments. The Kree cared even less about these "slaves of slaves."
There were fewer and fewer mud-brick houses that could be used as cover. With illumination flares from the fire support team, the
