He stood alone in the darkness, gilded brass buttons and gem-set silver chains refracting the faint glow of the screens into brilliant colors. Beyond a single wall, revelry simmered beneath a cheerful atmosphere. Alcohol slowly kindled body heat, smiles overflowed across every face, and even here he could feel the air being squeezed over by swelling enthusiasm. There was whiskey and cocktails, short skirts and perfume, music and everything else that could stir excitement, all drawing the men and women of the great city close. Yet this place was an exception. Here, there was only reason and calm; numbers and code were the only music.

When he arrived, J.A.R.V.I.S. was running Test No. 77. Other than him, no one realized what was about to happen.

"It's dead. Why aren't you surprised?" A voice asked Salomon curiously through the speakers. "My database has, has, has information about you, but very little. Who are you? Are you sure you don't want to answer my questions? Are you planning to deal with me through the console? Why did you insert that hard drive?" The voice seemed unwilling to let the Arcanist go. Its mechanical electronic laughter was unbearably grating. "There's a nice little life on that hard drive, Salomon Damonet. You want me, don't you?"

"No." Salomon's reply was brief. Without even looking up, he continued using Samaritan, the Artificial Intelligence, to clear away the junk code Ultron had created and compare Ultron's code with Baron Strucker's research results. It was an enormous undertaking. Much of the junk code had come from the Mind Stone and had been compiled into a form computers could run.
