"Phoenix, let's go." Salomon greeted the constant portal at Kamar-Taj, and the air began to swell, blooming with flames of incomparable brilliance. The Golden-red Great Bird landed on Salomon's shoulder and affectionately rubbed its head against his cheek. "Let's go find Malphas," Salomon said softly. "I wonder whether that lion will obey my orders."
"Oh! I'm sure he can hardly wait!" Phoenix said in a pleasant voice.
"Don't be so optimistic, Phoenix. I remember that lion's seal, but I'm not sure he'll be willing to serve me again." The Arcanist was far less cheerful than Phoenix. "If he has been completely corrupted by the power of the Abyss, then I'll have to seek the Manchester Gods' help."
"I can bring my twenty legions, my lord."
"Do that." The Arcanist stepped through the portal and entered a space filled with smoke, dust, and the stench of Sulfur. The portal, crackling with golden-red sparks, closed behind him. Salomon placed Pegasus's small statue on the ground, then summoned the mount gifted to him by the Goddess of Wisdom. Pegasus, who had been happily munching on an apple, was summoned here before he could react. "You should lose some weight, my little horse. If you don't, you won't be able to run anymore." The Arcanist patted the White Pegasus's rump, then dodged the tail that lashed straight at him. He swung onto the horse's back and grabbed the golden reins. "Hurry up. We have a lot of places to visit today. Phoenix, gather the legions, then we'll go see Malphas."
