Ch. 623Servant and Master at Odds

  • Shen Mo soothed Artoria, praised her character, and encouraged her to pursue her wish without relying on him for too much help.
  • After Shen Mo departed, Artoria told Emiya Kiritsugu she still intended to win the Holy Grail War, and he said they would remain Master and Servant.
  • Emiya Kiritsugu said he would acquire money from wealthy businessmen by any means necessary, but Artoria refused to accept funds obtained that way.
  • Artoria and Emiya Kiritsugu argued over whether victory justified violating her code of chivalry, and Artoria walked out.
  • Emiya Kiritsugu wondered whether Artoria might become his enemy.

Ch. 624Kanzaki Wants to Poach Someone

Kanzaki Kaori approached Artoria after observing her doubts and offered her a chance to leave Emiya Kiritsugu and work with her. The chapter ended with Artoria facing the revelation that her Master had sent her on a mission designed to get her killed.

  • Emiya Kiritsugu decided that he could not trust Artoria and planned to have her withdraw after she had served her purpose.
  • Kanzaki Kaori watched Artoria struggle with doubts about her ideals and considered recruiting her as an ally.
  • After several quiet days, Shen Mo went for a walk around Fuyuki City.
  • Emiya Kiritsugu sent Artoria alone to investigate whether the Tohsaka Family had used Chest Opening, knowing the mission was dangerous and intending to use it to get rid of her.
  • Kanzaki Kaori confronted Artoria and offered to work with her, telling her that Emiya Kiritsugu had sent her on a mission meant to kill her.

Ch. 625Joan of Arc Is Feeling a Little Unwell

Artoria met Kanzaki Kaori, who urged her to question her Master and consider an alliance, but Artoria refused to betray him without proof. Joan of Arc then sought help against Caster, who had been killing civilians, including children, and left Artoria to discuss the matter with her Master in exchange for a Command Spell.

  • Kanzaki Kaori told Artoria that the Tohsaka Family had powerful Chamber Members and that her Master had betrayed and abandoned her.
  • Artoria said she would question her Master but would not betray him without confirmation.
  • Joan of Arc arrived, explained that she was working part-time as a café maid, and asked whether they knew anything about Caster.
  • Joan of Arc revealed that Caster had killed ordinary people, mostly children, and asked Artoria to seek her Master's help, offering a Command Spell in return.
  • Artoria wanted to help but hesitated because she was weak and could not decide without her Master's approval.

Ch. 626626. This Money Is Nowhere Near Enough

Joan of Arc met Shen Mo, who explained why her attempt to obtain a Gift had failed and offered to tell her how to find Caster. She insisted on pursuing Caster despite the danger, while Shen Mo questioned her feelings for the people of the present world.

  • Artoria agreed to try persuading Emiya Kiritsugu to give up a Command Spell, while Kanzaki Kaori declined to get involved, and the three went their separate ways.
  • Joan of Arc tried to draw a badge with her work earnings to obtain a Gift, but Shen Mo told her she lacked both enough money and a powerful wish.
  • Shen Mo identified Joan of Arc's belief that Heroic Spirits should not interfere with the present, and offered to tell her how to find Caster if she took a walk with him.
  • Joan of Arc finished drawing the badge, received no response, and then asked Shen Mo to reveal Caster's location before more children were harmed.
  • Shen Mo warned Joan of Arc that she was no match for Caster, then said she cared about the people of the present world more than she admitted.

Ch. 627The Person You Seek Is Inside

Joan asked Shen Mo why he understood her so well, and he encouraged her to find a personal wish that could earn her a Gift and give her a new life. He led her to the Old District, where the caster she had been seeking was inside, and Joan prepared to act.

  • Joan admitted that she wanted to protect the city and asked Shen Mo why he understood her so well.
  • Shen Mo said he hoped Joan had a wish of her own, because a Gift could free her from the limits of being a Heroic Spirit and give her the potential for a reborn life.
  • Joan resolved to work toward finding a wish that could be acknowledged as her own.
  • Shen Mo led Joan to a run-down building in the Old District and revealed that the caster she sought was inside.
  • Joan sensed the blood and transformed into her armor, declaring that they could not wait while ordinary people might still be inside.

Ch. 628Meeting Between Old Acquaintances

  • Joan prepared to strike Gilles, but Shen Mo asked him about the god he had found.

  • Joan attacked Gilles and used a Command Spell to order him to kill himself, but his transformation overwhelmed her with madness and conflicting emotions.
  • Gilles revealed his wish to merge with Joan and keep her beside him forever, and tentacles emerged from beneath his robe.
  • Shen Mo halted everyone and everything except their thoughts, then confronted Gilles for violating the ban on large-scale, meaningless slaughter of ordinary people.
  • Gilles recognized the gaze behind Shen Mo as the one behind the Badge and feared that his wish was about to be stopped.

Ch. 630White List and Black List

Shen Mo warned Gilles for disregarding the Merchant Guild's rules and placed him on the Black List, while Ryunosuke was reduced to ashes after his evil thoughts resurfaced. The Guild members recognized Shen Mo's displeasure as an opportunity, and Orochimaru prepared to pursue Caster.

  • Shen Mo explained that selling Jars to villains was allowed, but warned Gilles that further evil thoughts would get him reduced to ashes and cast him out.
  • Shen Mo sent Gilles and Ryunosuke crashing out of the villa, and Ryunosuke soon began turning to ash when he again sought to create cruel artworks.

  • Orochimaru told Garp that he intended to kill Caster, while other observers including Konan, Kanzaki Kaori, Golden Flash, and Emiya Kiritsugu took notice.

Ch. 631You Must Look Ahead

Shen Mo explained to Joan of Arc that he judged wishes by their strength rather than their morality, and urged her to find a wish of her own. After he left, Joan sought help from Kanzaki Kaori to understand him and the nature of wishes, and their conversation began to loosen her confusion.

  • Shen Mo told Joan of Arc he had let Gilles and the others go because they had not broken the rules and their wishes deserved to be tested, then said her imposed duties were not enough to count as her own wish.
  • Shen Mo walked away, leaving Joan of Arc to pray and question what kind of god he was.
  • Kanzaki Kaori found Joan of Arc, and Joan asked her to explain Shen Mo and wishes in exchange for sharing information and help.
  • Joan of Arc told Kanzaki Kaori about her past as a saint, her wartime killings, and her unease with the title.
  • Kanzaki Kaori explained that others had called them saints based on their deeds or strength, and said Joan would need to break free from her past and rediscover herself to obtain a Gift.

  • Kirei turned and walked into the intact residence.

Ch. 637Hold On, Then Trust the King

  • Tohsaka Tokiomi introduced Kirei Kotomine to Joan, who sensed something unsettling in the priest’s gaze.
  • Kirei Kotomine stabbed Tohsaka Tokiomi and revealed that he had done what he wanted, as dark shadows surged from his body.
  • Joan recognized that Gilles had controlled Kirei Kotomine and warned Tohsaka Tokiomi that the chaos was his Gift.
  • Joan and Tohsaka Tokiomi fled toward Gilgamesh, but Gilles’s barrier warped the estate into a foul, melting corridor and trapped them.
  • Kirei Kotomine charged after them in a monstrous form, and Joan used her Noble Phantasm, “God Is Here With Me!”, to hold him back.
  • Tohsaka Tokiomi refused to leave Joan, and they chose to hold on and trust the King.

Ch. 638Invisible Tentacle Monster

Gilles trapped Gilgamesh and tried to take Joan of Arc, but Wise Flash and Golden Flash broke the mental spell and fought back inside a monstrous creature.
