Background & History

Jiraiya is a direct disciple of the Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, and one of Konoha’s Legendary Sannin. After Hiruzen’s death, the village considers him a suitable Fifth Hokage candidate due to his strength and prestige, but Jiraiya refuses the position and instead recommends locating Tsunade. 21 26

While investigating the Chunin Exam participants at Hiruzen’s instruction, Jiraiya identifies Lin Mu as the only child displaying extraordinary traits and personally witnesses his Wood Release. He concludes that Lin Mu is likely a pure-blooded Senju descendant, promises to investigate his origins, and introduces him to Konoha’s senior advisors. 23 24 25
