Ch. 41Orochimaru's Defection
Key plot points and events
- Gentō leaves a meeting with Konoha’s leaders convinced that his warnings about the coming Nine-Tails’ Rampage have been ignored. He resolves to find another way to protect Kushina and move the Uchiha out of danger.
- Hiruzen tells him that Minato has been selected as the Fourth Hokage and asks him to attend the inauguration in five days. The decision confirms Gentō’s suspicion that events are following their original course.
- Danzo visits Orochimaru’s hidden laboratory. They discuss Minato’s appointment, criticize Hiruzen’s leadership, and agree that Orochimaru’s research into transplanting Hashirama cells could eventually help them seize control of Konoha.
- A Root operative reports the conversation to Hiruzen. Alarmed by the Hashirama-cell experiments, Hiruzen orders an Anbu squad to arrest Orochimaru that night.
- On his way home, Gentō receives a side quest offering him a choice: help capture Orochimaru or help him escape. The reward is the S-rank Flying Thunder God technique. Gentō chooses Orochimaru and races toward the Forest of Death.

- Gentō grows more disillusioned with Konoha’s leadership and becomes determined to act independently. He prioritizes protecting Kushina and the Uchiha, then chooses to help Orochimaru for both strategic and personal reasons.
- Hiruzen shifts from passive concern to decisive action, ordering Orochimaru’s arrest after learning about the dangerous experiments.
- Danzo and Orochimaru reveal their shared ambition to gain control of Konoha, though they agree that the time for an overt move has not yet arrived.
