Yin Release

When he woke up, he found that the world outside had turned a snowy white.

It was snowing!

He opened the window and took a breath of cold air. After admiring the snowy scenery outside, Genma got dressed and washed up, then went to the study to look for a Yin Release genjutsu scroll.

"What are you looking for? Need any help?"

His father, Yu Fenglan, appeared in the doorway too. He was wearing pajamas, his hair was still a mess, and he had a beard. His looks were, at best, above average.

Clearly, Genma had inherited his good looks from his mother.

That was, assuming he didn't grow up ugly.

"I'm looking for a Yin Release genjutsu scroll."

Genma turned to answer.

Yu Fenglan scratched his head and came over. "Yin Release?"

"Son, aren't you learning Medical Ninjutsu from your mother?"

"You're still young. You should focus on learning one kind of ninjutsu first. You may be a genius, but you shouldn't bite off more than you can chew!"

Despite saying that, Yu Fenglan quickly found a genjutsu scroll.

Genma took it from him and said, rather exasperated, "Dear Lord Ran'ya, is it possible that I've already finished learning Medical Ninjutsu?"

"Huh?"

Yu Fenglan scratched his head awkwardly. "Is that so?"

"No wonder you inherited my wisdom. Hahaha!"

Genma rolled his eyes inwardly.

If I inherited your wisdom, I'd never get to eat Hokage's rice in this life.

It wasn't that he didn't respect Yu Fenglan, who had raised him. It was just that there was an adult's soul inside his body, so he got along with Yu Fenglan like a buddy.

Yu Fenglan patted his son on the shoulder. "Take a look first. I'll wash up, then come back and teach you."

With that, he turned and left.

Genma didn't mind. He sat down on the carpeted floor, unrolled the scroll, and quickly read through it.

The scroll had clearly been written by Yu Fenglan himself. Genma recognized his handwriting.

The first section covered training in Yin Release nature transformation, followed by the techniques themselves.

First came three genjutsu, then a sensory ninjutsu.

Genma skimmed through the whole thing before returning to the beginning to study it closely.

The Ninja Academy taught the basics of chakra nature transformation.

But it didn't teach specific training methods.

So Genma already knew what Yin Release was, but he didn't know how to train it.

Of course, having already mastered Yang Release nature transformation and gathered plenty of information, he had some ideas about Yin Release nature transformation.

Now, looking through his father's training notes, he found that some of his theories were confirmed.

Yin Release nature transformation was the creation of form from nothing.

Yang Release, or Yang Release nature transformation, gave form life.

That was how the Sage of Six Paths used Yin-Yang Release to create the Nine Tailed Beasts from the Ten-Tails' chakra.

Of course, that was all far beyond their level.

Quite a few clans in Konoha were known for using Yin Release nature transformation.

The Kurama Clan's genjutsu, the Yamanaka Clan's Mind Body Switch Technique and other secret techniques, and the Nara Clan's Shadow Secret Technique, for example.

It was easier to understand Yin Release by using the Shadow Secret Technique as an example.

An object's shadow couldn't normally be touched, but Yin Release nature transformation gave shadows the ability to become tangible. They could control the original object through its shadow, or even kill someone with it.

"One manifestation of Yin Release nature transformation is turning the intangible into the tangible, like the Shadow Secret Technique."

"What about genjutsu..."

Knowledge flowed through Genma's mind.

Genjutsu had many categories. It could be divided into visual, auditory, and tactile genjutsu, among others, based on the body's five senses.

Of course, some genjutsu could affect several senses at once—or even all of them.

"How's it going? Any questions?"

Yu Fenglan's voice interrupted Genma's thoughts.

He plopped down across from his son and said, "Yin Release is actually harder to learn than Water Release."

Genma answered honestly, "It seems fine to me. I don't find it that hard to understand."

"I know plenty of people in the village who use Yin Release nature transformation, like the Nara Clan's Shadow Secret Technique, the Yamanaka Clan's secret techniques, and the Kurama Clan's genjutsu."

Yu Fenglan wasn't surprised. He was already used to his son's maturity and intelligence.

Besides, Genma's classmates surely included children from the Nara, Yamanaka, and Kurama Clans.

Genma continued, "I summed it up like this: they all interfere with reality."

Yu Fenglan raised an eyebrow and rubbed his chin. "That's an interesting summary."

Genma said, "Yin Release creates form, and Yang Release gives form life. That's far too advanced for us."

"So when mastering Yin Release nature transformation, you start with something simple. Take genjutsu, for example. More specifically, visual genjutsu."

"It interferes with a person's optic nerves, deceiving their brain."

As he spoke, he pointed to one of the genjutsu on the scroll.

The Demonic Illusion: Mist Servant Technique was a D-rank genjutsu. It made the target see a host of frightening apparitions. The apparitions couldn't attack, but whenever they were struck, they split apart.

The technique was used to disrupt an enemy's vision and concentration.

It required three hand seals.

Genma raised his hands and slowly formed the seals. Yu Fenglan then saw the study fill with his son's figures.

They weren't illusory clones created by the Clone Technique, nor were the apparitions actually in the room. The technique was affecting Yu Fenglan's vision.

Of course, Yu Fenglan saw through it easily and could still pinpoint his son's real position.

But Genma had mastered the Demonic Illusion: Mist Servant Technique in such a short time, and was using it flexibly. He hadn't simply shown Yu Fenglan the so-called frightening apparitions—he'd made them more like intangible clones.

Yu Fenglan was overjoyed. "Hahaha! As expected, you inherited my wisdom, son!"

"You didn't learn Medical Ninjutsu this quickly."

Genma pursed his lips, not the least bit conceited. "A genjutsu like this can only bully ordinary Genin fresh out of the academy."

Yu Fenglan coughed twice. "You can't say that."

"Shinobi who specialize in genjutsu are very powerful. Take the Uchiha Clan, or the Kurama Clan back in the day."

That was true.

Genjutsu had a very high ceiling, but its floor was low too.

Still, genjutsu was just one application of Yin Release nature transformation.

"Since you've mastered the Demonic Illusion: Mist Servant Technique so quickly, I guess the Demonic Illusion: Hell Viewing Technique and Demonic Illusion: Fox Spirit Technique won't be a problem for you either."

Yu Fenglan sounded a little helpless.

There was one downside to having a genius son: it didn't give a father much of a sense of accomplishment.

He hadn't even started teaching, and his son had already mastered one technique.

The remaining two were C-rank genjutsu, and they were the only other two he knew.

But that was already quite a lot, since C-rank techniques were essentially Chunin-level.

Yu Fenglan scratched his head again. "How about I teach you a sensory ninjutsu first?"

"This one's a little harder than genjutsu."

Genma nodded.

They turned to the very end of the scroll. Yu Fenglan smiled and said, "This sensory ninjutsu didn't originally have a specific name. I came up with this one myself. What do you think? Pretty good, right?"

Genma's eye twitched. He nodded perfunctorily.

Yu Fenglan was satisfied anyway. With a smile, he said, "This technique uses your body as the trunk of a tree, letting your sensory perception spread outward like branches."

"These sensory branches can't be seen with the naked eye or touched by hand, but they can sense chakra."

"Son, you should know that chakra has mass."

"By your summary, these sensory branches can interfere with reality too, but the strange thing is that human bodies don't block them."

Genma nodded thoughtfully.
