In Itachi's private room, Kizaru sat in the only spot by the wall where the sunlight reached.
Itachi stood diagonally in front of Kizaru, his expression cold. The news that his younger brother had been imprisoned seemed to have no effect on him at all.
"Who are you?" When Itachi spoke, he didn't ask about Sasuke. Instead, he inquired about Kizaru's identity.
"Me? The new head of the Shimura Clan, an utterly ordinary merchant." Kizaru looked around Itachi's room and asked with a smile, "Do you have any coffee? Get me a cup."
"No." The formal members of the Akatsuki each had their own rooms at the base, but most of them didn't use them often. Itachi rarely came to his, so he hadn't stocked it with everyday necessities.
"Danzo is dead," Itachi said, calm and certain.
From the moment he heard Kizaru's answer, Itachi had known something had happened to Danzo. There must have been another upheaval inside Konoha.
"Yeah! I killed him." Kizaru said it casually, as if it were nothing out of the ordinary.
Itachi frowned slightly as he looked at Kizaru, who remained completely unruffled. Once again, he felt helpless in the face of the village's leadership.
Itachi had thought that the village would take on a new look with Tsunade as the Fifth Hokage, but judging by Kizaru's attitude, things seemed even worse than before.
"Were you sent by Konoha?"
"The village is preparing to execute Sasuke." Kizaru didn't answer Itachi's question. Instead, he took the initiative.
Sure enough, as soon as Kizaru said this, Itachi's expression changed for the first time, if only slightly.
"Has Konoha forgotten its promise?"
"No. It's not that they've forgotten. The people who are still alive just don't know," Kizaru said with a beaming smile, pointing at himself. "Except
