Background / History

Ancient origins and decline

Great Xia was founded at the beginning of an era by a Supreme Expert capable of suppressing an entire generation. After its founder's death, later rulers could not preserve its realm-spanning authority; its territory and influence gradually contracted until it became an ordinary Immortal Dynasty. 137

The dynasty's earlier identity was tied to the Ziwei Divine Dynasty. After the Ziwei Divine Dynasty fell in the Fifth Epoch, its surviving imperial forces adopted the older name “Great Xia.” The state later declined further, migrated from the Hundred Sacred States, and eventually settled in the Southern Territory. 376 388

Most of Great Xia's ancient inheritance was lost during this long decline. The Dragon Transformation Pool, a Secret Realm Grotto-Heaven left by ancient Supreme Experts, remained one of the Royal Family's most important surviving legacies. 133 136 137

Southern Territory settlement

Eight hundred years before the main story, Xia Hanbing—the “Sacred Dragon Sword”—led Great Xia's people into the Southern Border. He destroyed one nation alone and forced the remaining thirty-five kingdoms into submission, allowing the Great Xia clansmen to settle and prosper in the region. 8

Despite this achievement, the Southern Border's kingdoms and sects continued to treat Great Xia as an outsider. Its security depended heavily on Xia Hanbing's personal strength and the Imperial Palace's defensive formation. 8 9

The Crown Prince era

Emperor Xia arranged a competition to determine a successor amid fears that Xia Hanbing's death would invite invasion. Xiao Minghuang won and was formally established as Great Xia's Crown Prince. 9 122

Her enfeoffment mobilized the nation's destiny: citizens across Great Xia acclaimed her, a Golden Dragon of Destiny entered her body, and the Mountain River Seal transformed into the Golden Crown of Destiny. From that point, Great Xia's National Destiny was carried by her. 122

Regional expansion and recovery

After Xia Hanbing advanced to the Primal Embryo Realm, Great Xia became a refuge during the Southern Territory's instability. Its population of cultivators and enshrined experts rose sharply, though the state initially avoided territorial expansion. 168 171

The True Demon's blood sacrifice nearly destroyed the country, leaving only Xiadu inhabited. Xiao Minghuang restored its strength by incorporating the territories and populations of ten devastated countries, stationing Spirit Seed Realm experts in each. 182

The Dragon Tiger Sect later surrendered after Great Xia helped eliminate a demon within the sect. Other small nations followed, and Great Xia incorporated nearly all of the Southern Territory while maintaining friendly relations with the Spirit Sword Sect and Beast Taming Sect. 182 183

Later decline and succession

After Xiao Minghuang's departure, Emperor Xia fell under Daoist Siming's influence. He built temples to himself and the State Preceptor, launched wars into neighboring prefectures, revoked Xiao Minghuang's titles, and ordered her shrines and statues demolished. 310 314

Following the exposure of Daoist Siming's influence, Emperor Xia ended the foreign wars, dismantled the State Preceptor's temples, restored Xiao Minghuang's honors, and abdicated. 323

The Third Prince later succeeded but died from Qi Deviation after two years. After the eventual death of the Supreme Emperor, the Great Xia Dynasty formally concluded and its population was integrated into the restored Ziwei Divine Dynasty. 403 405
