Under the gloomy sky, the dense forest was stiflingly quiet, save for the occasional rustle of leaves stirred by the wind.
Uchiha Shisui pressed his hands tightly against his face, his Sharingan flickering with an eerie red light between his fingers.
Like a phantom, he burst forth from the woods, his movements agile and brimming with vigilance.
Behind him, Kakashi furrowed his brows, his eyes filled with resolve as he kept his pace steady, following closely in pursuit.
"Is that the Valley of the End ahead?" Uchiha Shisui muttered to himself, his voice flat. "I might as well finish you off right here."
With that, he spun around and hurled several Shuriken backward; they glinted with cold light as they streaked toward Kakashi.
Kakashi reacted instantly, dodging to the side while drawing his Kunai to parry. The crisp sound of metal clashing forced him to momentarily halt his advance.
Taking advantage of the gap, Uchiha Shisui swiftly changed direction and bolted away like an arrow released from a bow.
Before long, Uchiha Shisui burst through a thicket. Before him, two massive stone statues stood majestically on either side of the river, their expressions stern and their presence imposing.
They were the protagonists of that legendary battle—Senju Hashirama and Uchiha Madara. Even after the passage of time, the statues still radiated an awe-inspiring aura.
Without a moment's hesitation, Uchiha Shisui leaped off the high cliff, plummeting rapidly toward the river surface.
The wind whistled in his ears, his robes snapping violently. Upon impact, the immense force sent water splashing several yards into the air before it slowly cascaded back down.
Kakashi reached the cliff's edge and saw Uchiha Shisui had already jumped. A flash of determination crossed his eyes, and he followed suit, leaping into the river with a nimble grace.
"Fire Style: Phoenix Sage Flower Nail Crimson!"
Just as Kakashi's toes touched the water, sending up tiny ripples, Uchiha Shisui's low voice suddenly exploded over the river.
In an instant, several Shuriken wrapped in roaring flames streaked through the air like meteors dragging long tails of fire, flying toward Kakashi at breakneck speed.
"Water Style: Water Formation Wall!" Kakashi reacted with extreme speed. Almost the exact moment Uchiha Shisui unleashed his jutsu, Kakashi's hands moved in a blur of seals, and he let out a low shout.
In a heartbeat, the surrounding river water was driven by a mysterious and powerful force, surging upward to form a wall of water that stood firmly before him.
The flaming Shuriken slammed into the water wall with a series of dull thuds.
Fire and water clashed violently, filling the space with steam. Accompanied by a hissing sound, the tongues of flame were gradually suppressed and swallowed by the water, and the Shuriken were knocked down one by one, falling into the river with crystalline splashes.
Although he had successfully blocked the fierce ninjutsu, the intense impact caused the water to churn violently, spraying everywhere and severely obstructing Kakashi's vision, causing him to lose track of Uchiha Shisui.
Just as Kakashi looked around with a grave expression, trying to re-locate Uchiha Shisui, a cold light struck from behind him without warning.
Uchiha Shisui had appeared behind him like a ghost, his Kunai flipping nimbly between his fingers.
The sharp blade glinted with a chilling light before thrusting straight toward Kakashi with lightning speed.
The sharp Kunai sliced through the air with a bone-chilling whistle.
Kakashi's pupils contracted sharply. In this life-or-death moment, he had no time to think; as he was struck, his body transformed into a dazzling bolt of lightning, surging back toward Uchiha Shisui with a powerful electric current.
Watching the lightning conduct through the Kunai, Uchiha Shisui's lips curled into a meaningful smile. "A Lightning Clone? Still playing with small tricks."
As the words fell, a dull "bang" echoed out. The Uchiha Shisui struck by the lightning instantly turned into a wisp of white smoke and dissipated into the air.
Clearly, the one who had attacked Kakashi was merely his Shadow Clone.
"Why? Why are you defecting!"
As the smoke cleared, Kakashi saw Uchiha Shisui standing not far away and demanded an answer.
"The reason doesn't matter. If you must have one, let's say it's for the sake of peace."
Uchiha Shisui spread his hands and said calmly.
Facing Uchiha Shisui's idealistic words, Kakashi recalled the cruelty of the past war and shouted angrily:
"Peace is impossible to achieve! Shisui, come back with me! Don't keep making mistakes!"
Uchiha Shisui shook his head and said slowly:
"Kakashi, how do you know if it's impossible if you haven't tried? If you're here to stop me, you should just go back."
Kakashi was silent for a moment. He lifted his headband to reveal a scarlet Sharingan, as if he had made a decision. "Since you won't go back on your own, I'll have to force you!"
As he spoke, Kakashi unleashed his Chidori. Amidst the intertwining sound of lightning and bird chirps, Kakashi seemed to see Rin, and the Chidori dissipated the next moment.
"It seems you are still drowning in pain. In that case, there is no need to fight!"
Seeing Kakashi trembling after releasing the Chidori, Uchiha Shisui lost all interest and prepared to leave.
"Wait!" Just as Uchiha Shisui was about to turn away, Kakashi's voice rang out.
He took a deep breath, and the chakra around his body surged violently again. "I have made up my mind, and I will see it through. Chidori!"
Kakashi's eyes were filled with resolve. All his pain and confusion were ruthlessly suppressed, replaced by an unwavering conviction.
Lightning gathered in his right palm, even more intense than before. The light illuminated the entire river, and accompanied by a deafening roar, he charged toward Uchiha Shisui.
Just as the Chidori, carrying an aura of destruction, was about to touch Uchiha Shisui, he remained unhurried. With a slight turn of his neck, he tilted his head, and the fierce Chidori grazed his shoulder.
At that same instant, Uchiha Shisui's left hand shot out like lightning, grabbing Kakashi's wrist with pinpoint accuracy.
Kakashi felt a tremendous force from his wrist, like an iron vice, rendering him unable to move.
Following that, the Three-Tomoe Sharingan in Uchiha Shisui's eyes spun rapidly, an eerie light swirling within his gaze.
An invisible force surged through his eyes, striking deep into Kakashi's consciousness.
Before Kakashi could react further, a sharp pain pierced his head, and the world before his eyes twisted and warped in an instant.
The surrounding scenery began to shift continuously, with various illusory scenes flashing through his mind like a revolving lantern; in a mere heartbeat, the immense power of the genjutsu stripped away his consciousness, leaving him in a daze.
Seeing Kakashi fall for the trap, a cold glint flashed in Uchiha Shisui's eyes as he raised his right leg and delivered a fierce kick to Kakashi's abdomen.
The force of the blow was immense, sending Kakashi flying backward uncontrollably like a kite with a snapped string.
He traced an arc through the air before crashing heavily onto the riverbank, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Just then, dozens of figures emerged at the edge of the cliff, all of them Anbu.
"Sorry, Kakashi, buy me some time."
With that, Uchiha Shisui cast one last glance at the unconscious Kakashi, his figure flickering as he vanished from the spot, leaving behind only the now-calm surface of the river.
