The power of a Holy Sword was usually terrifying.
Like the Holy Swords of Artoria, Anno, and Gawain, they could erupt with dazzling, immensely destructive beams on the battlefield, directly annihilating the entire field and filling every enemy with dread and fear.
In truth, Lancelot and the Holy Sword in his hand were no different.
All four Holy Swords were masterpieces created by Viviane, the Lady of the Lake. While there might have been slight differences in the nature of their power, the strength they displayed was remarkably similar.
The other three Holy Swords could destroy battlefields and unleash holy light. There was no reason Arondight could not do the same.
And in fact, during his life, Lancelot had often used Arondight to release that lake-blue radiance upon the battlefield, clearing obstacles for Britain and expanding its territory.
But he could no longer do so now.
During the turmoil at Camelot's Royal Court, he and Mordred had turned into frenzied beasts. Mordred wounded Palamedes, while he had killed Gareth.
Mordred had not truly slain a companion, and the sword she used was not a Holy Sword. Thus, the "punishment" she had to bear was not severe.
Lancelot, however, had paid the price for killing a comrade alongside the Holy Sword held in his hand.
The Holy Sword had been corrupted, and from then on, it could no longer truly release the light that belonged to a Holy Sword.
But—
As Gareth departed, faint golden motes drifted through the windblown sand and settled upon Lancelot, upon Arondight.
It was like a beautiful hand holding a handkerchief patterned with strawberries, gently wiping Lancelot clean.
The violet-black coloration faded from the Holy Sword, and a powerful sensation burst forth from Lancelot's Saint Graph.
At last, his eyes regained their resolute gleam.
