On the wasteland, beside a stream, Gilgamesh and the other two were taking a brief rest.
Gilgamesh took out bread and beer, handing them to Annanu and Enkidu.
"How did you carry all this? I didn't see you with a bag or anything."
Enkidu took a bite of the dry bread and a sip of beer.
In truth, neither he nor Annanu needed to eat or sleep. Though they now lived within human society, they were not human by nature.
They possessed no human emotions, no human thoughts, no human reasons.
They were merely imitating humans.
Just as they had done from the very beginning.
Whatever humans did, they did as well.
The reason Annanu had rejected Nanshe's affection was precisely this.
He was not human. Therefore, in his understanding, Nanshe's feelings were "useless," and even harmful to his observation of humanity.
That was all.
To Annanu and Enkidu, only each other mattered.
"My treasury contains everything. Remember that," Gilgamesh said arrogantly, as though showing off. Even seated on the ground, he did not rein in his awful attitude.
"Everything, really?" Annanu leaned closer.
Gilgamesh keenly sensed something and shot Annanu a glare. "Not what you're thinking of."
Annanu:?
A hint of grievance appeared on his face. "But I haven't even said what I wanted yet. You're already out of it?"
Gilgamesh smiled very gently.
"Don't give me that bullshit."
"Tch, you didn't take the bait." The aggrieved expression on Annanu's face vanished instantly, and he fell into thought. "Whenever I saw people in Uruk make that expression, the other person always agreed. Why won't you?"
"What the hell have you been learning from my citizens? Can't you learn something good?" Gilgamesh looked deeply awkward.
"I did! I'm fucking amazing at farming!" Annanu said proudly.
Gilgamesh nearly failed to catch
