"I'm Cheng Yili! Open the city gates, now!" Cheng Yili rode a fine yellow steed and shouted up at the walls of Jia County, gritting his teeth impatiently.
A large force followed behind him, all reinforcements sent to aid Qin Jia in the south, who had been caught in a surprise attack.
Yet after shouting several times, he saw no one appear atop the walls.
"What's going on? Where is everyone?!" Fury made Cheng Yili unbearably agitated, and he raised his head to roar again.
There was still not a single figure on the battlements.
He looked at the troops behind him, then at Jia County's gates, his brows tightly furrowed.
"General, we—"
"Killllllllll—!!!"
"Kill!!!"
Before the general offering his hesitant advice could finish, earth-shaking battle cries suddenly erupted from both sides.
Cheng Yili shuddered in fright and gripped his spear with both hands, looking to either side. Though he had yet to see where the enemy was, he was already shouting, "Enemy attack—!!! Stay alert! The entire army—stay alert!!!"
Boom—clack!
Just as Cheng Yili frantically searched for the enemy, the gates of Jia County suddenly opened with a tremendous noise.
Large numbers of troops had already charged down from West Cat Mountain and Ridge Mountain on both sides. Amid the thin dawn mist, Cheng Yili could not make out who the attackers were or how many there were.
"General, the gates are open!" Another general pointed frantically at Jia County's gates. "Let's enter the city first! If these people surround us, we'll surely die!"
Cheng Yili's mind had turned completely muddled. He hurriedly shouted, "Enter the city! Everyone, enter the city!!!"
