The Luoming's shell had been torn open. The massive cruiser was like a virgin with her clothes ripped away, exposed before the hulking brute that was the Zerg. There was no longer any need for destroyers to attack; the Zerg's Mutalisks, Vipers, Brood Lords, and Fluorescent Banelings had all begun deliberately launching attacks against the Luoming.
Edward's face was grim. The battle's difficulty had exceeded his expectations. On the screen to his right, the orange dots representing human fighters, the red dots representing bombers, and the green dots representing mech warriors were all rapidly disappearing.
"Bang, bang, bang, bang..." The Luoming's secondary guns fired madly. The shells from its secondary guns were not thermal weapons, but heavy armor-piercing rounds. Against shieldless warships and enemy aircraft, these armor-piercing rounds were even more effective than the laser beams of thermal weapons.
Edward clearly had an excellent crew of gunners. The damage caused by the frenzied secondary-gun barrage was not much less than that inflicted by the fighters!
Without two or three seconds of sustained cannon fire from a fighter, Blade-Arm Mutalisks and Vipers could not be instantly killed. But one hit from an armor-piercing shell would instantly puncture the Zerg's chitinous hide and burrow into its body. After a 0.3-second delay, it would blow the bug to pieces from within the wound.
"Boom! Boom!" There was something for the human side to celebrate: the Joanna had performed exceptionally well this time. The energy fired by its two main cannons accurately struck a Zerg destroyer, reducing the enemy's numbers once again!
Less than an hour into the battle, the Zerg had already lost three destroyers, two-thirds of their Blade-Arm Mutalisks, half their Vipers, nearly all their Brood Lords, and Fluorescent Banelings had become a rare sight as well.
Across the battlefield, either human
