Ch. 561Once Bitten, Never Again!
Key plot points and events
- Yun Shu returns from the mission with Kurumi and Nia, reporting that DEM Industries has been taken over and two Spirits found. She brings them to Li Yu’s underground base.
- Li Yu tells Kurumi that her best friend, Sawa Yamauchi, is still alive—though only “half-alive” after falling into the Adjacent World and merging with Kurumi’s Inverse Form. Once the two worlds merge, Kurumi may be able to bring Sawa back.
- Determined to save Sawa, Kurumi commits to helping Asuna and the others find the remaining Spirits and bring them to Li Yu’s world. Li Yu asks Yun Shu to host Kurumi and Nia for a week and arrange identification and lodging.
- Li Yu leaves to continue researching the Hourai Elixir, then travels to the Honkai: Star Rail world with Jhana and Al-chan. They enter the Sea of Quanta, where the Twin Goddesses are combining its scattered worlds into one.
- Al-chan realizes she could have gained status and rewards by doing the work herself, but backs down when the Goddess of Creation appears. The Goddess explains that the integration will take a few more days and asks Li Yu how he plans to reveal the Sea of Quanta. It will still need to be joined with the other side and concealed from everyone but Li Yu.
Character developments and interactions
- Kurumi shifts from anxious hope to firm resolve after learning Sawa may be saved. She offers to help with Li Yu’s plans in exchange for the chance to reunite with her friend.
- Nia watches Kurumi’s emotional burden with concern and curiosity as she meets Li Yu and explores his base.
- Li Yu acts as a powerful guide and organizer, sharing only what Kurumi needs to know and delegating the newcomers’ care to Yun Shu. He also continues his private research and oversees the Sea of Quanta project.
- Yun Shu takes responsibility for settling Kurumi and Nia after bringing them to Li Yu.
- Al-chan is eager to claim credit for the Sea of Quanta’s creation, but quickly retreats behind Li Yu when confronted by the Goddess of Creation—suggesting a more cautious attitude after their past clash.
- Jhana eagerly abandons her game to return to the Sea of Quanta, while Al-chan follows out of friendship and interest in Jhana’s home. The Goddess of Creation focuses on the project and Li Yu rather than provoking Al-chan.
Significant themes
- Hope and determination: The possibility of saving Sawa gives Kurumi a new purpose and strengthens her commitment to helping others.
- Power, credit, and labor: Al-chan resents that the Twin Goddesses are gaining the benefits of work she believes she could have done, while Li Yu suspects Pandora arranged the effort to benefit herself.
- World-building and control: The Sea of Quanta is being consolidated into a single world, then will be hidden and accessible only to Li Yu.
- Trust and cooperation: Characters with different motives—Kurumi’s personal quest, Jhana’s attachment to home, and the Twin Goddesses’ work—are drawn into Li Yu’s wider plans.
