Ch. 241Konoha Crush Plan
Chapter Summary: “Konoha Crush Plan”
Key Plot Points and Events
- Hisoka detects a Konoha spy near the room where Sunagakure’s leaders are gathered. Kankuro is sent to investigate while Hisoka deliberately remains uninvolved.
- In the arena, Hisoka faces Uchiha Sasuke and easily counters his attacks. He mocks Sasuke’s slow ninjutsu and incomplete taijutsu, comparing him unfavorably to Rock Lee.
- Driven into a rage, Sasuke activates Orochimaru’s Curse Mark. His transformed chakra alarms Kakashi and the Third Hokage, who suspects that something is wrong with the supposed Fourth Kazekage.
- The invasion begins when genjutsu causes many spectators to collapse. Konoha’s elite ninja mobilize, the Four Violet Flames Formation traps Orochimaru and the Third Hokage, and Sunagakure forces launch a massacre throughout the village.
- Hisoka defeats several Root operatives with overwhelming physical strength, but notices that the invasion is not unfolding as planned. The Fourth Kazekage has not appeared, and Konoha’s forces are rapidly overwhelming the Sand ninja.
- Baki realizes that the “Fourth Kazekage” on the main platform may not be the real Kazekage. Hisoka confirms that something is wrong and urges Baki to consider retreating.
- Baki asks Hisoka to help protect the surviving Sand ninja and buy time for a withdrawal. Hisoka agrees, despite viewing the entire invasion as largely meaningless.
- As Kakashi and Might Guy pressure them, Hisoka releases a tremendous amount of chakra and summons or unleashes a powerful entity referred to as “Monkey.” The chapter ends with the roar of a Tailed Beast echoing across Konoha.
Character Developments
- Hisoka continues to act as an observer rather than a committed participant in the Konoha Crush Plan. He is confident, sarcastic, and vastly more capable than most of the fighters around him.
- Hisoka’s attitude toward Sunagakure becomes somewhat more complicated. Although he intends to inherit the village and initially treats the invasion as a performance, he ultimately agrees to protect its younger ninja and help them retreat.
- Sasuke becomes enraged by Hisoka’s insults and his inability to land a hit, causing Orochimaru’s Curse Mark to activate prematurely.
- Baki shifts from confidence in the invasion plan to alarm and desperation as he realizes the Kazekage is missing and the Sand forces are being destroyed.
- Kakashi and Might Guy demonstrate Konoha’s rapid response and coordinated strength, forcing Hisoka to reveal more of his power.
- Orochimaru and the Third Hokage remain trapped in their deadly confrontation inside the Four Violet Flames Formation, while the true identity and fate of the Fourth Kazekage remain uncertain.
Significant Themes
- Deception and hidden identities: The apparent Fourth Kazekage may be an impostor, suggesting that the entire invasion has been manipulated.
- Plans collapsing under reality: Sunagakure’s carefully prepared assault quickly falls apart once the Kazekage disappears and Konoha’s defenses mobilize.
- Power and arrogance: Hisoka’s casual dominance over Sasuke, Root, and other elite ninja highlights the gap between his abilities and those of the surrounding fighters.
- Loyalty versus personal ambition: Though Hisoka intends to claim leadership of Sunagakure, he still chooses to protect its ninja when their lives are threatened.
- The danger of emotional instability: Sasuke’s anger triggers the Curse Mark, showing how easily his desire to prove himself can be exploited.
Character Interactions
- Hisoka taunts Sasuke throughout their fight, provoking him into activating the Curse Mark.
- Kakashi and the Third Hokage react with concern to Sasuke’s transformation and begin suspecting the Kazekage’s identity.
- Hisoka clashes with Root operatives, killing them effortlessly when they attempt to capture him.
- Baki and Hisoka argue over the failed invasion plan and the absent Kazekage, with Hisoka forcing Baki to acknowledge the crisis.
- Hisoka temporarily allies with Baki against Kakashi and Might Guy, defending the Sand forces and preparing to create an opening for their retreat.
- The chapter closes with Hisoka unveiling a terrifying new source of power, leaving the outcome of the battle uncertain.
