Clusters of souls wreathed in black mist were blocked off within the other seven sections. Apart from the office they occupied, everything around them was pitch-black, filled with the sounds of ghosts wailing and wolves howling.
Those sounds had been kept out only by the group's power. Without that protection, the utterly agonized cries could instantly rupture an ordinary person's eardrums.
These souls seemed to be reminding them every moment: This is what you did. Look at what you've done. You killed so many of us. This is the proof of your crimes, a sin you can never erase.
