Rows of stainless-steel morgue drawers gleamed with a cold light, arranged in neat lines. Aside from Bobby, the other three possessed extraordinary senses and could tell that these drawers were already full.
Even so, dozens of corpses still lay strewn haphazardly across the floor, not yet placed inside.
The bodies were twisted into all manner of grotesque forms, their deaths horrifying beyond measure.
Some were covered head to toe in malignant black blisters that constantly oozed yellow-green pus; some had limbs warped and deformed, their bones piercing through their skin at inhuman angles; worse still, strange tissues resembling fungi or insect carapaces had grown across certain corpses, as though some inhuman creature were bursting out from within.
"Oh, fuck!" Dean fought back the urge to vomit as he stared at one of the corpses.
Its empty eyes were wide open, while its mouth was packed with dense flesh buds like the tentacles of a sea anemone.
Forcing down his discomfort, Sam crouched to examine it. He lightly touched the mutated tissue on a corpse's arm with his gloved fingers, and it actually twitched.
"This isn't any known disease. Some force has forcibly twisted and catalyzed it into a 'new species.'" His voice carried suppressed rage.
"Confirmed," Castiel said, sensing the dense, filthy power of laws lingering in the air. "The Horseman Pestilence is here, and his 'work' is at a critical stage."
