The instant they separated, both parts stopped writhing. The yellow rapidly faded, turning into ordinary dark-gray necrotic tissue.
"It has to be completely separated," Wu Heng emphasized. "Cut every connection. If even a single filament remains attached, it can regenerate."
Dean looked at the beakers and remains, then suddenly asked, "When did you start researching this?"
"From the moment you brought back the first sample from the scene," Wu Heng said. "Sam dug up a small piece of contaminated soil by the reservoir. The lab analyzed it overnight and ran seventeen sets of control experiments. These are the results."
He turned, pulled a report from the filing cabinet, and tossed it onto the table.
Printed on the report's cover were the words, 'Leviathan Biological Characteristics and Response Plan,' followed by densely packed data charts and experimental records.
"So you called us here to have us clean up those juveniles that escaped?"
"Yes." Wu Heng nodded. "Energy tracking indicates that most of the juveniles are still concentrated within twenty kilometers of the reservoir. They need time to adapt, find hosts, and establish an infection network. This is the best window to eliminate them. Once they spread out, it'll be much harder."
Dean picked up the report and flipped through it quickly.
It detailed the infection process, changes in host behavior, and evaluations of the effectiveness of various attack methods.
"I'll stay here and monitor the overall situation. You, Sam, and Bobby Singer will lead the guild's demon-hunter teams and eliminate as many as possible."
Wu Heng turned toward the monitoring wall at the other end of the laboratory.
