The first captain's shield was split open, and a bone blade slashed across his waist, leaving a wound deep enough to expose bone. The captain screamed and collapsed to the ground.
The second captain thrust his holy light blade at Marcus's chest. Marcus sidestepped, then swung backhandedly, cleaving into his back. The frost-laced bone blade split his armor and cut into his spine.
The captain lay prone on the ground, twitched twice, and went still.
Seeing that things had turned bad, the third captain turned to flee. Marcus caught up and brought his blade down on the back of his neck.
