The evil ghosts did not care how many soldiers died. Bone soldiers could be dug out of the ground, and evil spirits could condense from yin energy. As long as Morko remained, the supply of soldiers would never end.
The flesh guards cared even less about dying. They had grown from the living flesh layer to begin with. Once they died, they became pulp; the pulp was absorbed by the living flesh layer, and new guards grew elsewhere.
Neither side cared about the lives of their soldiers, because soldiers were not people. They were tools.
Amid the numbness of these minor troops, the main forces of both realms arrived one after another.
The Evil Ghost Shadow Bone Army poured out from every corner of the Bone Wasteland. Some were withered-bone ghost soldiers, some were incorporeal evil ghosts, some were semi-material evil spirits, and some were shadow creatures even older and more terrifying than evil spirits. They were too numerous to count, their bodies thickening the gray mist severalfold.
Their eyes flickered in the darkness like countless dim stars.
The Flesh Aberration Army crawled out of every crack in the mountains of flesh, rose from every depression in the living flesh layer, and grew from every branch of the flesh-thorn thickets.
Their bodies crowded together, fleshy whips tangling with one another, bone spikes crashing together. Dense clusters of tiny scarlet eyes glowed like a burning sea of blood.
Gray mist and dark-red skylight interwove. Bone fragments and flesh splattered, while ghostly energy and the sweetly rancid stench canceled and devoured one another.
There was no reason, no retreat—only the instinct to devour and destroy.
Withered-bone ghost soldiers swung their bone claws, tearing flesh guards into pieces; flesh guards opened their huge mouths and chewed the withered-bone ghost soldiers into powder.
