"This is bad. I can't wake him." Pablo's uncle looked troubled. He took out another handful of maggots and stuffed them into Ash's mouth.

The writhing creatures crawled down Ash's throat as his uncle continuously chanted an incantation.

He wanted to use the maggots as a conduit to communicate with the part of Ash that had already digested them.

She shook Ash hard, but it was no use.

She then raised her right hand and slapped Ash across the face more than a dozen times. His darkened face turned red, yet there was still no sign of him waking.

"What do we do?" Kelly panicked.

"It's fine. My uncle is still here!" Pablo calmly reassured her, patting Kelly on the shoulder to tell her not to worry.

Then he turned toward his uncle, only to find him hurriedly packing his belongings.

"Uncle, what are you—?"

"What do you mean, what? With this many evil spirits, do you think your uncle is some Marrow Eater wizard? I'm getting ready to run. What else should I be doing? Who knows how many evil spirits are outside?"
