The Ever-Rotter stretched out a rotting arm and grabbed the chain hooked into the Sea of Rot, trying to tear it apart.
Rotting flesh and chain collided, producing a series of sizzling sounds like steel meeting ice. The two sides remained locked in a fierce struggle, stirring up waves of bizarre gray-red matter.
That matter solidified and fell to the ground, drilling beneath the earth and vanishing.
Elsewhere, the Grudge-Binder, caught by the chains as well, wore a look of shock and uncertainty. It had not expected the chains to be able to hook something intangible, as if they had latched directly onto its true soul. Even the Ever-Rotter could not do such a thing.
In every clash between the two, the Ever-Rotter had always used matter to burst apart its rifts.

The two Origin-level evil spirits continued exerting force amid their confusion. Their powers surged out together, and they managed to break free of the chains restraining them.

The chains stretched endlessly, like crimson iron tongues winding around their bodies. They wrapped
