Jeff prayed for another round, and he felt as though the air around him had become much fresher.
When he had first entered the church, he had sensed that "rotten stench."
That was also why he had kept suspecting that something had set its sights on him.
But now, that rotten smell seemed to have vanished completely, as though the air had been purified.
Feeling much more at ease, Jeff believed he had received protection and deliberately prayed for another round.
He then slipped the Bible the priest had given him into his suit pocket, pushed open the little door of the confessional, and walked out.
Seeing the golden basin of holy water the priest had placed on the table, he thought for a moment, walked over, dipped his hands in the water, and smeared it all over himself again.
Only after using up a third of the holy water in the basin, leaving his entire body nearly covered in moisture, did he finally let out another sigh of relief.
"Sorry, Father. I just wanted to be extra safe. Besides, holy water is meant to ward evil away from believers, and I'm a believer too, so it should be fine if I use a little more, right?"
After reassuring himself, Jeff bowed toward the church altar before turning and leaving the church, arriving on the road outside.
A ray of sunlight shone down on him, warm against his body.
Everything seemed peaceful and serene, and the terrifying scene in the library earlier felt as though it had only been an illusion.
"Mm, no. Why is there red in this light?"
Thirty meters from the church, Jeff had been standing with his eyes closed, enjoying the sunlight and feeling as though both body and mind had been cleansed by the church,
