Caroline also looked at Kevin, then belatedly turned to Jeff with an apologetic expression.
Jeff's heart sank. He forced an indifferent expression and turned his head away. Jeff beside him immediately nodded. "Then I understand."
"Latest report: The FBI has discovered a head at the edge of the sinkhole, within the collapsed alleyway. Experts at the scene believe its body was likely crushed underground by the collapsed sinkhole."
The reporter on the television suddenly revealed an image.
"It's him!" Kevin immediately cried out, pointing at the screen.
"What?" Jeff asked in confusion.
"That head belongs to my boss—the devil who once controlled me. It looks like he's already been killed."
"Do you think your boss would sell you out?" Jeff asked.
"Oh, fuck, he's a devil. I don't think there's any need for this meaningless guesswork."
"Would gang bosses like you take the fall for your underlings?"
"Of course not. I have to stay outside and run things. If my underlings go in, I can get them out. But if I go in, I can't count on them." Jeff answered as though it were only natural.
"Then there you have it. To him, I'm just an underling."
"Fine. Looks like we need to speed up our escape!"
Both of them believed that the other side would absolutely expose Kevin. Why would they rather die than keep such a thing hidden for him?
Kevin himself was only a minor player, and one who had personally carried out the deed. He was also the chief culprit behind this incident.
While the two were talking, the mustached head that had just been examined and sealed in a transparent bag on the television screen suddenly burst into flames before everyone's eyes.
The police officer holding it reacted quickly and let go, but three of
