Everything was so bizarre and absurd.
When Zhang Wutian regained his senses, he found himself appearing in the depths of a dense forest.
The quintessential Chinese-style green mountains, coupled with a winding stream, made Zhang Wutian almost suspect he was still dreaming.
Arriving at the nearby stream, Zhang Wutian splashed his face with the water; the cold, clear flow helped his brain gradually calm down.
"How I got here isn't important. What matters is that I am here now. How to survive—that is the biggest problem at the moment."
As a city-bred kid, Zhang Wutian admitted that while his name sounded fierce, he was actually as weak as a kitten. If a real fight broke out, he probably couldn't even take down a goose; he estimated his combat power to be around 45 geese.
"I'll probably die in these woods, assuming this really is a deep, remote forest."
When he said the first sentence, Zhang Wutian was full of pessimism, but as he began the second, he felt a surge of spirit.
Because he saw a wisp of cooking smoke.
Of course, as a child raised in the city, Zhang Wutian couldn't be certain that the vertical column of smoke was truly from a hearth, but that didn't stop him from making the connection.
Even if it wasn't cooking smoke but a natural wildfire, anything was better than his current situation. At least with fire, many things could be done. Zhang Wutian had forgotten the fact that even with fire, he didn't know how to cook, and he had also forgotten that his combat power was less than that of a goose, making it impossible to catch prey in such a deep forest.
People say moths fly into the flame, but in truth, when people are in desperate straits, they also yearn for the fire that represents civilization. And so, Zhang Wutian stumbled forward, one foot deep and one foot shallow, toward the direction of the smoke.
At the site of the smoke, Zhang Wutian saw a grilled fish skewered on a piece of wood.
"I feel like I've seen this scene somewhere before."
Distant memories flickered in and out. Furthermore, Zhang Wutian wasn't actually that hungry, and he didn't particularly like fish—let alone this raw, rustic grilled fish. Thus, Zhang Wutian merely leaned in close; he didn't touch the fish.
The presence of grilled fish meant there had to be someone who grilled it. If he asked for help, even if the person was cold and unwilling to lend a hand—a type of person quite common in the city Zhang Wutian came from—he felt he could at least inquire about the situation and get some tips on how to leave this place.
Zhang Wutian waited for the person who grilled the fish to appear, and before long, they did.
Zhang Wutian recognized the person the moment they appeared.
"Son... Son Goku!!!"
Not the Monkey King of Flower-Fruit Mountain, our dear Great Sage Equal to Heaven, but that little monkey from the manga. Although he possessed the bloodline of a warrior race, he was the guy who grew up on Earth with a gentle heart.
"You know my name? Who are you?" the other asked curiously.
Zhang Wutian began to ponder.
The person before him was clearly the young Son Goku. The Son Goku of this era was innocent and simple; one could easily lead him around with a few lies. As someone who grew up in the city and had been tempered by countless telemarketing scams, Zhang Wutian could easily manipulate this little monkey with just a few words, making him work like a horse or ox for him, and he would even be happy to do it.
But Zhang Wutian felt an extreme resistance to deceiving this little monkey. The reason was simple: the first time Zhang Wutian encountered the Dragon Ball manga was in his first year of elementary school. This little monkey could be said to have grown up alongside him. Throughout his entire childhood and youth, he had always been by his side, like an old friend. Even after the serialization ended, Zhang Wutian would often flip through the adventures of this little monkey again. The feeling was like meeting an old childhood friend; every reunion made Zhang Wutian feel at ease.
Zhang Wutian knew everything about this little monkey. He knew what difficulties he would face in the future and what kind of person he would become. To this old friend—even if it was a one-sided friendship—Zhang Wutian was unwilling to deceive him.
And so, he suppressed the excitement in his heart and said honestly, "I seem to be lost. Can you help me?"
"Sure! Grandpa said to help people who are lost. Are you a human?"
"Of course I'm a human. You mentioned your grandpa—where is he?"
"He died," Little Goku said with a cheerful smile.
So it's this period? Zhang Wutian thought. The Little Goku before him seemed slightly younger than in the manga, meaning this point in time was between when Little Goku transformed into a Great Ape and trampled his grandfather Son Gohan to death, and when Bulma arrived with the Dragon Radar.
Thinking of this, Zhang Wutian felt a small jolt of horror: Oh, damn, I've transmigrated into the Dragon Ball world and I'm not even surprised? I never knew my nerves were this thick; they're almost as thick as a Saiyan's tail after transforming into a Great Ape.
Perhaps because the person in front of him was Son Goku, like suddenly seeing a familiar old friend, that surprise suppressed the horror, allowing Zhang Wutian to finally realize his situation.
Then, Son Goku invited Zhang Wutian to his home.
On the way, as he climbed mountains and crossed ridges with Son Goku's help—sometimes just letting Son Goku carry him—Zhang Wutian asked, "Son Goku, aren't you afraid that I'm a bad person?"
"I think you're a good person," said Son Goku, who was carrying Zhang Wutian on his small back. "Because you didn't steal my fish. Grandpa said that people who don't steal are good people."
Zhang Wutian thought to himself that it was because he wasn't hungry yet and didn't care for his fish, but of course, he would never say such things. After a series of jumps, Son Goku brought Zhang Wutian into his home.
"Grandpa, I'm home." Son Goku pressed his palms together toward a sphere. Zhang Wutian naturally knew that this was the biggest cheat item in Dragon Ball: the Four-Star Ball, one of the seven Dragon Balls.
"Grandpa, hello. My name is Zhang Wutian, a traveler who got lost and ended up in another world." Zhang Wutian also bowed toward the sphere. After all, if this deceased old man hadn't raised Son Goku into such a kind little monkey, Zhang Wutian wouldn't have been saved at all.
"You can stay here today. Tomorrow, I'll take you out of the forest," Little Goku told Zhang Wutian.
Zhang Wutian looked around the simple little cabin and then said to Son Goku, "Goku, do you know martial arts?"
"Martial arts? Do you mean fighting? Grandpa taught me before."
"Can you teach me? I think you're very strong, and I want to be as strong as you."
If he were facing someone else, Zhang Wutian would never be so direct; he would at least beat around the bush to state his intentions. But since it was Son Goku, it was completely different. There was no need for any flowery language with this simple little monkey; he just had to say it.
"Sure, I can teach you," Little Goku said cheerfully. Just as expected, it didn't deviate from Zhang Wutian's predictions at all.
Then the two went outside the house, and Little Goku stood opposite Zhang Wutian.
"I think your body is very weak, Zhang Wutian. Let me test how strong you are first." Saying that, Little Goku raised his fist.
"Wait, Goku, be careful. I'm very weak compared to you."
"I understand. I'll try hitting you with just a light punch."
Since the little guy who wasn't even half his height said so, Zhang Wutian could only cautiously cross his arms over his chest, preparing to receive what Little Goku called a light punch.
At the very moment Little Goku's light punch was about to make contact with Zhang Wutian, a scene like a flash of memories appeared in his mind; he seemed to recall a certain plot point from the Dragon Ball manga.
That was a long time later, during that scene at the World Martial Arts Tournament between Trunks and Mr. Satan, when Trunks had also thrown a so-called light punch.
"Wait, wait, it couldn't be! Little Goku, hold on a second!"
Then came a loud bang.
Without even a scream, Zhang Wutian was sent flying instantly.
At this moment, Zhang Wutian knew nothing at all; he certainly did not see Little Goku frantically picking him up and pressing his lips against his to perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
This Dragon Ball fanfiction is a product of a sudden whim; I have no backlog, so I just type and upload. Everyone, feel free to just take a look.
