The train kept heading north. By now, the window glass had turned a thick, sticky gray that gradually deepened until the lights in the corridor and on the luggage racks came on. The train swayed, fine raindrops tapped against the windows, and the wind grew stronger and stronger.

When they saw a stretch of mountains and woods beneath the deep purple sky, the train seemed to slow down.

"We're finally almost there." Ron, who had returned to Harry's compartment after finishing his patrol, tore his gaze away from the chocolate balls Flag was eating. "I'm starving. I want a proper feast... Hope Allen hasn't taken chicken legs off the menu..."

"No." Ginny leaned against the window and looked outside. "This isn't Hogwarts... Why has the train stopped?"

"Then why has it stopped?" Ron asked in confusion. "Has something happened?"

Harry looked at the mechanical watch on his wrist. "We're not running into Dementors doing inspections again, are we..."

The train moved more and more slowly, the sound of the wheels fading, and a voice that was neither male nor female echoed through the carriages. "The train will arrive at Hogwarts' new platform in three minutes. Please leave your luggage on the train. We will deliver it to the school for you."

"Good thing the rain's basically stopped." Ginny pulled her head back from the window in relief. "Ron, we need to check the carriages and see if any little wizards have fallen asleep and missed getting off."

"Don't bother me. The other prefects will do it." Ron waved impatiently, ignoring Ginny, and called Harry and the others to get off. The cold of the night made everyone shiver.

The train slowed even faster, and at last it came to a stop. The passengers pushed and shoved, surging toward the doors
