The three of them held the railing and descended the steps. At the bottom was a dead end; the doorway had been bricked up, and an old-fashioned poster was pasted to the brick wall. On it, a modern girl in a red evening gown, with blonde hair, blue eyes, and blazing red lips, was putting on makeup before a mirror. A red lipstick lay below the mirror, and beneath the poster were the words Blind and Book Pig Bar. As the wizards approached, the eyes of the figure in the portrait began to move, focusing on them.

Ian and Leonard each raised a hand and pointed their wands at themselves. With a flash of silvery-white light, the black wizard robes they wore changed into more appropriate old-fashioned suits. Ian even conjured a small blue bow tie for himself.

Jessica stood before the brick wall with her handbag in hand, waiting for them to finish transforming. Her makeup was exquisite, and she was dressed dazzlingly. The long hair that had hung loose during dinner earlier had been coiled into a lovely bun, fixed in place with a pearl hairpin, and she wore an ice-blue gauze evening dress that shimmered with blue light.
