In an instant, the furious Voldemort made the already shredded hem of his black wizarding robes turn into more than a dozen long, tentacle-like living things. They flew like long snakes, clung to the corridor like tentacles, and advanced in a crisscrossing rush, rolling forward at high speed.

Dumbledore's phoenix, Fawkes, had already appeared beside the falling White Wizard. It flapped its wings in midair, its bright, shining eyes especially vivid in the darkness. Its long golden tail feathers swayed behind it as it reached its talons toward Dumbledore's shoulder, while Grindelwald held Dumbledore's hand and dangled at the very bottom. The wind whipped both his and Dumbledore's wizarding robes until they rustled loudly.
Driven by the tentacles, Voldemort had already shot to the blasted stone opening with astonishing speed. Then the flying secret art he had developed from Dementors shrouded his entire body in black smoke, keeping him from falling and letting him hover in the air.
The phoenix clearly could not bear the weight of two adult wizards, especially since Grindelwald's weight exceeded the standard for a normal wizard. So even though Fawkes
