The Gate had only just finished forming when Allen stepped out of it. With his head of white hair, he stood out sharply in the night. But the next moment, he took a few steps forward, raised his hand to wave, and before he could even get out a greeting, the headmaster of Hogwarts dropped straight into the well the Granger family had already abandoned.
A string of screams instantly rang out from inside the well. Hermione had never heard Allen make a sound like that before, and she was so startled that she immediately rushed toward the well. But what made it even more hair-raising was that mixed in with those panicked screams came the crisp laughter of a little baby, making it all the more terrifying in the dim night.
Mrs. Granger cried out in alarm. Hermione's heart lurched, and mother and daughter both ran over to see what had happened—her own trap had caught Allen.
