Mr. Granger had never been remotely prepared for this. He had only just been praising his daughter, and though he had been a little worried that Hermione was too serious and proper, he had never imagined she would actually end up pregnant before marriage—not to mention she was still a student.

"Hermione, is what Miss Lovegood said true?" Mr. Granger, coming back to himself, leaned toward Hermione and raised his voice, pressing her urgently.
"That's... about right..." Hermione's voice was hoarse, as if her throat had gone dry. She clenched her hands and nodded helplessly in admission. She felt she had disappointed her parents, and she herself felt she had been far too out of line this time.

"I only just heard your dad praising you for keeping to the rules, and in the next breath I hear you're having a baby... Hermione, every stage has its own responsibilities..."
