With a series of dings, clangs, and rattles, a lift descended in front of them. The golden grille slid open softly, and Allen and the others stepped inside together. The lift rose slowly, its chains clanking. As it opened floor by floor, several wizards came in. When they saw Allen's group, they could not help giving them a few extra looks, but Wolf Mom and the others quietly moved to block them off around the edges. Several paper airplanes zipped into the lift and drifted lazily around above their heads. They were pale purple, with the Ministry of Magic's stamp printed along the edges of their wings.
"Level Four, Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, including the Beasts, Beings and Spirits Office, the Goblin Liaison Office, and the Pest Advisory Bureau." As the cold female voice sounded, Allen and the others stepped out of the lift. A small flock of memos flew out after them, and the lift doors clanged shut again.
Unlike the empty corridors of the Department of Mysteries just now, this corridor was extremely lively. Aside from the paper airplanes zipping through the air, there were the roars of all sorts of magical creatures and the shouts of wizards.
"Mr. Allen Harris, how good to see you. Are you here to see the Head of Department?" Mr. Amos Diggory, who had just come out of the lavatory, hurriedly adjusted his glasses when he saw Allen and came over to greet him. As he pulled out a handkerchief and dried his dripping hands, his short, slightly curly brown hair was neatly combed beneath his flat cap.
"Yes, I'm here to see her." Allen took the initiative to extend his hand and shook Mr. Amos Diggory's hand.
"I'll take you in." Mr. Amos Diggory rubbed his
