After blasting away a Lemure that had gotten close to Professor Sprout, Hannaford, the Auror squad leader standing in front of him, blocked an arrow from the controlled Centaur professor for one of his team members with a Shield Charm. Then, with one careless moment, he failed to dodge in time and was struck in the shoulder by a cunning Hook Demon that had long been waiting for its chance. Though the uniform he wore offered excellent protection against such direct physical attacks, sparing him the danger of losing an arm, as the Hook Demon viciously yanked its cleaver free, the serrated hook tore the small wound open into a mangled mess of flesh, and blood immediately poured out.

Seeing their captain wounded, the other two Aurors hurried toward him. The Auror who had cast the Super Shield Charm earlier took his place, wanting to launch a retaliatory attack against the Hook Demons, only to find that these creatures, which they could have easily dealt with one-on-one, had already retreated back into the swarm of Lemures, using those completely mindless subordinates to protect themselves. The other Auror tried pointing his wand at his captain's wound, but the healing magic he usually relied on for immediate effect, along with the Potions he carried to help wounds close quickly, had limited effect against an injury inflicted by a Hook Demon's cleaver. From the look of it, the spell would have to be repeated many times before the wound could be fully restored. They had no choice but to give up on treatment for the moment and return to the battle—the wound caused by a Hook Demon's great cleaver was a lasting one, unable to heal naturally and resistant to healing magic.
