Allen shrugged and spread his hands. "Since Tom set all this up, wouldn't it be a waste of his painstaking effort not to experience it?"

"...You're being a little too disrespectful..." Hearing Allen's words, Sirius Black only felt that he was asking for a beating. "If You-Know-Who knew you were using the trials he so carefully arranged for this..."

The glittering phosphorescence from before was coming from the locket at the bottom of this Pensieve-like Stone Basin. There was a pedestal beneath the Stone Basin, and though he could not identify it, Sirius Black could tell that extremely profound spells were permanently fixed on both the pedestal and the basin.

Thinking that it was these liquids that had tortured Regulus, Sirius Black glared and reached toward the Stone Basin, wanting to touch them. But he met an invisible resistance. His hand could not get close to the liquid; air as hard as steel, unbreakable and impenetrable, separated his hand from the poison.

Unconvinced, Sirius Black raised his wand and made several complicated movements over the surface of the liquid, muttering something soundlessly. Nothing happened. Only the light from the liquid seemed to grow a little brighter.

Only after Sirius Black had finished trying did Allen speak. "This Stone Basin and its base are very advanced magical creations. The Stone Basin itself stops your hand from going in. You can't separate it, ladle it dry, or drain it out. After it's drunk dry once, it refills itself after a while."
