Harry gripped the edge of the Stone Basin tightly with both hands, watching in terror as Dumbledore closed his eyes and drained it in one gulp. When his eyes opened again, Dumbledore's body began to sway uncontrollably.
"Professor—Professor?" Harry asked worriedly when he saw Dumbledore set down the empty shell. Seeing that Dumbledore seemed to be losing strength, he hurried over and supported him.
Dumbledore closed his eyes, then forced his arm up again and silently drank three more cups. As more and more of the potion was poured down Dumbledore's throat, that sense of weakness gradually spread. After enduring it for a while, Dumbledore seemed to lose control of his body as if struck by lightning. He collapsed to the ground, his whole body limp, as though all his strength had left him.
The shell spoon fell to one side. He lay half-sprawled on the ground with his eyes closed, seemingly without even the strength to get up again.
"Can you hear me, Professor? Professor?" Harry asked urgently.
Dumbledore's withered hand moved, pointing toward the crystal Stone Basin. Harry picked up the shell spoon that had fallen to the ground, scooped up a spoonful of potion from the Stone Basin, and fed it to Dumbledore.
"Drink more." As Harry fed him, Dumbledore's expression changed, as if he had realized something, and he began shaking his head with difficulty in refusal.
Harry's throat tightened. "Professor, you have to keep drinking. Remember what you said?"
Dumbledore weakly waved his hand, constantly shaking his head and refusing to drink any more of the potion. His hand clutched Harry's arm, as if he wanted to explain something, or perhaps to push Harry away. Harry noticed that Dumbledore's two legs, which had seemed strengthless, were now clamped tightly together.
