He looked back at Dahlia, his gaze turning serious.
"Never mind whether she was an Aeon or not. You're a Memokeeper, so you must know what happened to her in the end, right?"
"Who knows?" Dahlia gently shook her head, a lock of hair slipping down beside her cheek. "But you can ask it."
Her gaze shifted to the black cat.
"It will give you the answer, but you must be prepared."
"Her third death will be beyond anything you imagine. It may cause you pain."
Dahlia's voice carried a trace of a sigh. "But painful memories are precious too—if you can accept them calmly..."
"Huh? Something happened to my second uncle again?" Yan Huan took a deep breath, his fingers unconsciously tightening.
He hadn't expected this trip to the Land of Dreams to involve his second uncle gambling with her life for real.
But she had appeared again afterward, seemingly none the worse for wear.
So she must have made it safely through that third death too.
Dahlia sighed, looking out the window into an unknown void. "Do you know?"
"I often wonder whether everything I am doing at this moment is a gift from the capricious [Fate]."
"I never decided anything. I was merely manipulated at its whim."
Then she smiled again in consolation, her smile somewhat hazy beneath the lights.
"But at this moment, I do not care, because my joy is real, and so is my sorrow."
She looked earnestly at Yan Huan, her eyes clear and resolute. "You will be the same."
"Remember, if there is a regret you absolutely must make up for, then shout with all your strength from the bottom of your heart. Send it to the end of time, and let the Last King, who is about to depart, hear it."
