Chapter Summary

1. Key Plot Points and Events

  • Dan Heng and Jing Yuan discuss the dispute involving women who occupied the men’s restroom and allegedly prevented men from entering. Dan Heng sarcastically refers to the situation as a problem with the “Xianzhou version,” while Jing Yuan insists it must be handled through official procedure.
  • The plump woman leading the group demands that Jing Yuan defend her and the other women, claiming the men involved were at fault. She insults the men as “trashy.”
  • Dan Heng objects to her language and formally argues that the women were the ones behaving improperly: they occupied the men’s restroom, expelled men already using it, and obstructed efforts to rescue Bailu.
  • Dan Heng presents Bailu, the Dragon Girl of the Alchemy Commission, as evidence. He claims she became mentally distressed after running out of toilet paper in a restroom stall and suggests the women’s obstruction could amount to an attempted attack on Bailu or even a plot connected to the Medicine Master’s Legacy.
  • The surrounding crowd quickly believes Dan Heng’s accusations. A young woman who had been in an adjacent stall confirms hearing Bailu singing for hours and supports the claim that Bailu’s condition could have become dangerous.
  • A Cloud Knight reveals Dan Heng’s identity as the reincarnation of the former Imbibitor Lunae and a Nameless of the Astral Express. This dramatically increases the crowd’s respect for him and suspicion toward the women.
  • Jing Yuan asks the plump woman to restate her position. She argues that the women were protecting their sisters’ privacy and that men entering the men’s restroom invaded them.
  • Dan Heng and Jing Yuan reject this reasoning, emphasizing that it was still a men’s restroom and that the women had disrupted its normal use. Dan Heng also defends Yan Huan’s use of force, arguing that it occurred only because the women obstructed his rescue operation.

  • Bailu is revealed to have suffered an embarrassing breakdown after running out of toilet paper. Despite the ridiculous circumstances, Dan Heng reframes the incident as a serious threat to the Dragon Healer’s life.
  • The plump woman grows increasingly confused, angry, and pressured as Dan Heng twists her defense into an accusation of conspiracy. Her confidence weakens once the crowd turns against her.

  • Gender conflict and hypocrisy: The argument centers on competing claims about privacy, entitlement, and proper restroom use, with both sides accusing the other of inappropriate behavior.

Ch. 500All You Think About Is the Tail

Chapter Summary: “All You Think About Is the Tail”

Plot Points and Events

A few days after the previous events, Huo Huo, Guinaifen, and Sushang search the Luofu Miscellany for reports that might indicate the escaped tail’s whereabouts. Huo Huo connects various strange incidents—including a diner claiming possession, disturbances during a horror illusion play, and other supernatural rumors—to the tail. Sushang remains skeptical, suggesting the incidents are ordinary scams or publicity stunts, while Guinaifen and Yan Huan remind Huo Huo that the tail may simply be enjoying its newfound freedom.
Huo Huo admits that she still misses the tail and remembers how, despite constantly mocking her, it used to help her overcome frightening situations. She also acknowledges that her recent success as a judge has been largely supported by her friends, though she still feels insecure about who she was without the tail.
The group then discovers a post describing a Cloud Knight at the Alchemy Commission behaving as if possessed and attacking his comrades. Huo Huo identifies the incident as the work of a Suiyang rather than necessarily the tail. The team rushes to investigate, abandoning their usual plan to question the electronic pet Fuyan first.
At the Alchemy Commission, they find one Cloud Knight acting violently and incoherently while another tries to restrain him. Yan Huan arrives first and identifies himself as a temporary mercenary of the Ten Lords’ Decree. After Huo Huo and the others arrive, the normal Cloud Knight recognizes them and asks them to handle the situation carefully. Yan Huan instead immediately knocks out the possessed Cloud Knight with a brick, casually insisting that the injured man is fine because he is still breathing and moving.

Character Development

  • Huo Huo remains deeply preoccupied with finding the tail. Her constant suspicion reveals both her emotional attachment and her difficulty adjusting to independence. She recognizes that she has become more capable through working with the others, but still remembers herself as a frightened, helpless person before the tail’s support.
  • Guinaifen acts as a reassuring older-sibling figure, encouraging Huo Huo to be patient and reminding her of her achievements. She also views the tail’s relationship with Huo Huo as a strange but meaningful bond.
  • Sushang provides practical skepticism and comic relief, questioning Huo Huo’s tendency to blame every unusual event on the tail. Despite her confusion about the group’s activities, she responds quickly when a genuine threat appears.
  • Yan Huan is blunt, pragmatic, and physically aggressive. He cuts through the group’s hesitation and deals with the possessed Cloud Knight in an excessively direct manner.
  • The tail never appears, but its absence strongly influences Huo Huo’s thoughts and behavior. Its past role as both tormentor and protector becomes clearer.

Significant Themes

  • Dependence versus independence: Huo Huo is learning to function without the tail, yet she still doubts her own abilities and associates her confidence with its presence.
  • Friendship and support: The group’s encouragement helps Huo Huo develop into a more competent and confident judge.
  • Uncertainty and rumor: The chapter contrasts online superstition with real supernatural danger. Many reports are probably exaggerated or fraudulent, but the group eventually encounters a genuine Suiyang-related incident.
  • The complicated nature of bonds: The tail’s relationship with Huo Huo was cruel and mocking, yet it also protected and assisted her, making its disappearance emotionally complicated.
  • Comedy amid danger: The frightening possession case is undercut by Yan Huan’s absurdly casual decision to incapacitate the Cloud Knight with a brick.

Character Interactions

Huo Huo repeatedly asks Guinaifen, Sushang, and Yan Huan whether suspicious incidents involve the tail, prompting Sushang’s exasperation and the others’ attempts to reassure her. Guinaifen praises Huo Huo’s work and compares the tail’s behavior to that of an overbearing older brother. When the team reaches the Alchemy Commission, the ordinary Cloud Knight recognizes Yan Huan and Sushang, creating confusion about Sushang’s association with the Ten Lords’ Decree. The group takes control of the investigation, while Yan Huan’s abrupt and violent intervention shocks both the Cloud Knight and the others.
