Ch. 461A candidate for the artifact spirit
Summary
- Inside the Myriad Dao Tower, the Origin World’s concentrated Dao power and origin energy greatly improve everyone’s understanding and cultivation prospects. Great Emperor Ziwei realizes that prolonged practice there could let him reach the Divine Emperor realm—and perhaps rise even higher—far sooner than he expected.
- Chen Ling, whose talent and comprehension are comparatively modest, experiences a subtler but equally important change: she can now understand the Great Dao more clearly and sense that she might finally be able to absorb origin power. However, she hesitates because tempering her Dao would bring the immortal ascension tribulation within a hundred thousand years, and she doubts she could survive it.
- Chen Xuan explains that the tower is too powerful for him to give it an ordinary artifact spirit, so he has created the Seal of Authority. A Great Emperor who accepts it would gain the tower’s artifact-spirit authority and a major increase in combat strength, while avoiding the ascension tribulation. The cost is permanent: they could never ascend, would be bound to the tower and Cloud Sea Sacred Land, and would be unable to betray Chen Xuan.
- The Great Emperor of Cloud Sea immediately volunteers. Chen Xuan declines for now, partly because the volunteer is his grandmaster and Yun Xi’s father, and says they can wait for a willing candidate to emerge as the sacred land gains more Emperors.
- The possibility strongly appeals to Chen Ling, who begins to consider whether the role might suit her.
Character developments and interactions
- Great Emperor Ziwei gains renewed confidence in his potential after experiencing the tower’s environment.
- Chen Ling moves from feeling blocked by her limitations to seeing a possible path forward, but remains wary of the tribulation and the permanent sacrifice involved.
- Chen Xuan shows concern for the sacred land’s protection and avoids pressuring anyone into the role. His refusal to appoint the Great Emperor of Cloud Sea reflects respect for their family and institutional ties.
- The Great Emperor of Cloud Sea demonstrates loyalty and self-sacrifice by volunteering, despite still wanting to pursue greater cultivation.
- The group reacts with silence and careful consideration, recognizing that the offer’s benefits come at the price of giving up the immortal path.
Significant themes
- Opportunity versus sacrifice: The artifact-spirit role offers security and power but permanently ends one’s chance to ascend.
- Unequal talent and second chances: The tower may help cultivators like Chen Ling overcome limits that once seemed insurmountable.
- Ambition versus acceptance: Some still seek greater heights, while others may prefer a safer path.
- Power, duty, and loyalty: Protecting the Cloud Sea Sacred Land may require personal sacrifice, but Chen Xuan insists that the choice should be voluntary.
