After listening to her introduction, Zhang Yuchen sighed as well.
"They're all such pitiful dogs. Are all your dogs here?"
The college student shook her head.
"No. The mother dogs that have given birth and the puppies are kept in separate little rooms. This way!"
With that, the college student led the way, taking us deeper inside.
I deliberately slowed down and quietly asked Pan Ling,
"What did you find?"
Pan Ling lowered her voice.
"There's an evil aura on every one of those dogs. That's the real reason they're so listless, not because they aren't getting enough food.
There really is something wrong with this shelter."
Pan Ling's eyes were incredibly sharp. I had only sensed that something was off, but she had directly seen the evil aura on the dogs.
It seemed the source of that evil aura was here.
"Yeah. But for now, that college student doesn't seem suspicious. If anyone's got a problem, it's probably the director here."
I said softly.
Pan Ling nodded as well.
Then we said nothing and continued forward.
Before long, we arrived at another room.
There really were several mother dogs that had given birth being kept separately here, each in a small iron cage.
Like the dogs from before, they were all extremely weak, looking half-dead.
Even the nursing puppies had no energy whatsoever.
"The dogs in our shelter are all here.
Our director is a dog lover.
She used all her savings to establish this shelter. To save money, she even studied veterinary medicine herself and earned a veterinary certificate.
Whenever the dogs get sick, she's the one who treats them.
Unfortunately, three dogs couldn't be saved this afternoon."
The college student looked full of admiration.
It was clear that she genuinely loved this work and these dogs.
