Hearing Mao Jing ask for yellow and white paper, I immediately opened my tool bag.
I grabbed forty or fifty sheets from inside, each about the size of a palm.
Sometimes they could be used to draw talismans; sometimes they could be used in rituals.
Zhang Yuchen's tool bag also contained plenty of this sort of yellow and white paper, all of it the soft paper used for spirit money.
"Is this enough?"
I asked.
Seeing so much yellow and white paper in our tool bags, Mao Jing showed a hint of delight.
"Enough, enough. With mud, talismans, and this yellow and white paper, fooling ordinary paper effigy ghosts won't be a problem.
"As long as we can get through the woods ahead, we'll be able to approach the back of the mountain without a sound."
Zhang Yuchen was a little impatient.
"Then what do we do? Don't tell me we're wrapping ourselves up in this paper and turning into paper people?"
Mao Jing nodded directly.
"That's right. We'll mix up some Ghost Mud in a moment.
"Use the mud to stick this yellow and white paper onto our clothes, smear Ghost Mud over our faces and hands.
"Then apply Yang-Suppressing Talismans to suppress the living aura on our bodies.
"That way, in the eyes of those paper effigy ghosts, we'll no longer be living people.
"There's a very good chance we can safely pass through those woods and reach the back of Stone Ridge Mountain."
Mao Jing briefly explained his plan.
Mao Jing either kept quiet, or everything he said was practically useful.
Pan Ling and I immediately nodded in agreement, and Zhang Yuchen had no objections whatsoever.
Seeing that we agreed, Mao Jing said,
"Then let's begin! Junior Sister, mix the Ghost Mud. I'll draw some Yang-Suppressing Talismans."
