Early life and coma

Mao Jing began studying under Daoist Qingshan at sixteen and traveled throughout the country with him. At nineteen, he encountered the Nine Corpse Daoist in Western Hunan, was bitten by a corpse, and fell into a three-year coma after corpse poison went untreated. After awakening, he settled in Mountain City with Daoist Qingshan. 122

The Nine Corpse Daoist murdered Mao Jing's senior sister—the woman he loved and called his wife—and remains the source of Mao Jing's deepest grief and hatred. He ultimately killed the fifth corpse body of the Nine Corpse Daoist in vengeance. 122 1239

Partnership with Jiang Ning

Mao Jing first met Jiang Ning after using a rooster to guide him out of the haunted Experimental Building, which Mao Jing identified as the Nine Corpse Tower. He then accepted Wang Cui's parents' commission to bring her ghost home and restored the damaged half of her face with white powder. 57 58

Their early partnership was forged during the Fierce Child Ghost case. Mao Jing established the Heavenly Dipper Array, enhanced his peachwood sword with the Sword-Opening Spell, and risked his life to give Jiang Ning an opening to cast Palm Thunder. 119 121

Mount Qingcheng disciple
