"Magic rune research?" Li Si was indeed quite interested. His experiences from his previous life had also taught him the importance of magic rune research.
Magic runes were composed of special characters imbued with power. They were an important medium for carrying magic and had two primary applications.
The first was as the foundation for constructing Spell Models, serving as the key to containing and transforming the power of various elements. Aside from a very small number of exceptions, mages generally began learning spells by mastering the magic runes within Spell Models.
The other application of magic rune research was more familiar to the public: inscribing magic runes to grant magical power to related objects, such as weapons and armor. This process had a unique name: "enchantment."
Its finished products included the widely known Magic Rune Cannons, enchanted weapons, Magic Stone Lamps, and more.
Yousef Dahe Er was the strongest Magic Rune Master in Fies City. His main fields of research were magic rune inscription and item enchantment.
His disciple, Bernie, likewise focused on this area.
"I remember you were previously researching civilian enchantments?" Li Si asked as he studied how to use the engraving device.
"Yes. My teacher suggested that I begin with this area to lay the foundation for deeper research in the future."
As Bernie showed Li Si how to operate the advanced Magic Rune Engraving Device, he replied, "I've only just become an intermediate Magic Rune Master. I don't yet have the knowledge or strength needed to support further research into advanced weapon and armor enchantments. Civilian magic runes have been developing rapidly lately. Newly emerging products like Magic Stone Lamps and Magic Rune Communicators show that this field has considerable potential."
Bernie looked at Li Si. "So, how about it? Want to research civilian enchanted products with me?"
Li Si nodded. "Sure. Of course I won't miss an opportunity like this."
Although his most urgent task was to improve his strength and uncover the truth behind the Sacred Festival assassination, the opportunity offered by the Fifth Magic Workshop was not one he could pass up. It concerned some of Li Si's future plans, especially in the area of civilian enchanted products.
Because this world differed from his previous one, players in his past life had tried to recreate modern technological products in the game world, but without exception, they had all failed. This world simply did not support the emergence of technology.
Yet some lifestyle players had stumbled upon products that replicated certain technological effects from his previous life through the power of magic runes, such as Magic Air Conditioners, Magic Rune Cars, and a whole series of other products.
That player had naturally gathered people to manufacture the products and made a fortune. But just as he was preparing to expand production, the various factions quickly set their sights on him. After facing every kind of suppression and sanction, he had no choice but to seek refuge with the Wealth Church. Only by becoming one of its subordinate forces had he escaped disaster.
Li Si knew the entire course of that affair very well. After all, he had been one of its participants back then, so he naturally knew the secrets of those magic runes.
In other words, Li Si could now reproduce a whole range of products from his previous life and earn enormous profits.
But Li Si had no intention of doing so. He was merely a Court Viscount, after all, and he did not believe he could protect such immense interests on his own.
That was why Yousef Dahe Er and Bernie, as well as the Fiss Royal Magic Academy and the Royal Mage Corps behind them, were so important to his plans.
This was also the surprise he had mentioned to Mora. The Golden Vine Merchant Guild's sales channels would be equally important.
No rush, no rush. I still need to plan this out carefully. I don't have enough energy to devote to civilian enchanted goods yet, and my strength is still lacking.
Li Si quietly made his plans. Seeing him suddenly fall into a daze, Bernie asked curiously, "What's wrong? Is this device difficult to use?"
"Ah, no. Something else suddenly came to mind." Li Si answered casually. "I see the laboratory is still missing a lot of things. Has the Magic Workshop not officially begun operating yet?"
"That's right." Bernie sighed. "I've been busy with this lately. It'll probably be more than a month before research can officially begin. Teacher still has a lot of ideas."
He glanced at Li Si. "So there's not much for you to do today. You can just familiarize yourself with the place for now. Come back once the research begins."
"Fine. I've been rather busy lately too." Li Si nodded. In the future, he could conduct both experiments and Arcane Research here. Whether it was elemental concentration or magical equipment, his own research room could not compare.
There was no reason not to use it. Li Si had never been one to stand on ceremony with Bernie.
In a sense, Bernie could be considered the second-in-command of the Fifth Magic Workshop.
Bernie led Li Si around the entire workshop so he could familiarize himself with it properly, then saw him to the entrance.
"That's it, then. I still have a lot to do, so I won't see you off. I'll notify you when the workshop begins operating," Bernie said to Li Si.
"Got it." Li Si waved his hand. There was no need for so much politeness between the two of them. He directly left with Welf, who had been waiting outside the door.
"Young master, where are we going now? Back home?"
After they got into the carriage, Welf closed the door and asked Li Si.
Li Si thought for a moment. "Let's go to Beilei Street instead. I'll train a little longer."
"Yes." Welf knocked on the carriage door and gave an order to the coachman, Bende, before turning back to take his seat.
"Young Master Li Si, you've been learning and mastering other weapons faster and faster lately. Is there anything else you want to learn?"
Li Si calculated it. The weapons in which he had reached intermediate proficiency were the Single-Handed Sword, greatsword, shield, spear, and saber. Along with his staff mastery, which was about to break through to advanced level, he could probably learn the bow, axe, and hammer from the guards later. Yet no matter how he counted, he was still one intermediate weapon proficiency short of the ten required for Proficiency in All Weapons.
Unfortunately, none of his guards were assassins. Otherwise, he could have learned daggers.
It seemed he would have to find another place to learn that final weapon.
As for inviting someone to teach him at home, Li Si thought it over and discarded the idea.
He might still be under the attention of the mastermind behind the scenes. Learning weapons from his own guards was one thing—Li Si trusted that they would not dare spread gossip about their noble lord—but inviting someone from outside carried a certain risk.
So it seemed that concealing his identity and learning elsewhere was the best solution.
With that in mind, Li Si said to Welf, "Let's continue practicing for now. I'm interested in learning the bow, axe, and hammer as well. Make the arrangements as you see fit."
"I understand, Young Master Li Si." After that incident, Welf no longer found it strange that Li Si wanted to learn these weapons, nor did he wish to concern himself with it. He only wanted to properly complete the tasks Li Si gave him.
After all, he had only just managed to become a Gold Warrior. He did not want to "die of old age" so soon.
Today has been truly fulfilling! Li Si stretched lazily as he thought this.
Please, anything will do, please.
