Outside the cabin,
Li Si and Aivar stood in the somewhat narrow corridor, silent for a moment.
Aivar looked at Li Si with great seriousness. This was the first time he had shared such an important secret with someone else.
If Li Si had not displayed such strength while controlling everyone aboard the ship earlier, along with his familiarity with the sea, Aivar would not have spoken so frankly.
To Aivar, that small island was not merely the place that had saved his life. It was also the source of his unusual abilities.
Over the past few years, Aivar had done fairly well for himself in Dana Port thanks to those abilities, which was why Captain Loren had hired him.
Every moment, he longed to return to that island.
He was far stronger now than he had been back then. If he entered that palace again, perhaps he could gain even greater power?
That was also why Aivar had not left Dana Port.
Later, he sometimes went to those waters on his own, and sometimes passed through them aboard other ships, but he never found that island again.
After exhausting every possible method, Aivar finally realized the limits of his own abilities and began considering seeking help from others.
However, Aivar did not dare approach the major powers of Dana Port. He knew very well that, with his strength, they would likely swallow him whole. At best, he would receive only a tiny fraction of the reward from them.
So he could only rely on the help of powerful outsiders.
Aivar's decision to accept the Mermaid's employment had not been unrelated to that consideration.
But it was only after meeting Li Si that he finally made up his mind.
Most importantly, the goods aboard the Mermaid were worth a fortune.
