Background / History

Miaocheng Tian is one of the Nine Heavens Holy Concubines of the Huan Yin Workshop, an assassination organization backed by Qi State and led by the Empress. The Workshop uses beautiful, highly trained women for intelligence gathering, seduction, and assassination. Miaocheng Tian is deployed alongside Xuanjing Tian to Luoyang, where Qi State has set its sights on Wang Shifan. 17

She was born with Innate Severed Meridians, an illness that leaves her frail and causes recurring pain. Her condition is considered incurable even by the Empress; Xuanjing Tian can only temporarily ease it by transferring internal energy to her. 23

While disguised as a maid at Wang Shifan's banquet, Miaocheng Tian is identified by Zhu Youning through her concealed martial bearing. She and Xuanjing Tian feign ignorance and terror rather than resist, as they are unarmed and surrounded by the Longxiang Army. Wang Shifan has them bound and turns them over to Zhu Youning. 17

After being taken into Zhu Youning's household under the alias “Miao'er,” she continues to conceal her identity while seeking a way to escape with Xuanjing Tian. The sisters retain their loyalty to the Huan Yin Workshop and accept the Empress's orders to monitor Zhu Youning closely. 23 27

She is skilled at deception, readily adopting the persona of a frightened common maid when captured and later giving a composed explanation for her hidden martial arts. 17 23 45 Even while outwardly obeying Zhu Youning, she continues gathering intelligence for Qi State, including sending court news to Fengxiang by carrier pigeon. 35
