For the still-young Vitus Black Sable, that long, dreamless night was no more than a fleeting corner of memory. He would remember his conversation with Neiguyi, but would soon forget that glimmer of light, as well as just how peacefully he had slept that night. Perhaps he would recall these things someday in the future, but that was a matter for the future.
As for Neiguyi—or rather, the complex being that had acquired Horus Lupercal—this night would change him forever. Yet when it came, he did not realize it, and he did not even notice when that golden light appeared.
His thoughts were still caught up on the group of Krieg soldiers Vitus had encountered during the day.
He had some recollection of this world. When Vitus had still been studying at the academy, their name had appeared in textbooks three times. That was not a particularly great honor, but it was enough to show that they were not to be underestimated. A collective mutiny involving some two thousand soldiers? That alone would have been enough to make people frown in an ordinary Auxilia unit, let alone in one that, overall, had received commendations and attention from the Departmento Munitorum.
Instinctively, he felt that something was hidden behind this. He wanted to get to the bottom of it immediately, or at least obtain more information as quickly as possible so he could deduce the truth, lest Vitus suffer harm he did not deserve because of it in the future—interestingly, this cautious concern did not truly belong to Horus Lupercal.
The Wolf King was a radiant statue, and the shadow he cast could shelter many people. But for that very reason, he would not lower his head to look upon those weaker than himself. Perhaps he might glance at them now
